Cracking in Engine compartment Floor

I just bought a 1989 272 SR1 W.O. engines. it had a pair of 330 HP Big Blocks in it. On the drivers side of the floor in the engine compartment about even with the front motor mount there is a delamination the width of the of the bottom between the center stringer and the right side stringer. There is a strengthing piece of either wood or some kind of laminate that is glassed in for strength, this is a piece that has been there since the boat was built. I can slide a knife blade into the crack which is about 10" long but I dont feel anything solid in there. Just wondering if there was a piece of wood in there or some other type of strengthner ?? I suppose the best way to fix it is to cut the mat out and see whats under it ?? it would be a lot easier to just sand it out and lay another piece of mat over it. I also noticed that over on the left side it is starting to crack in the same place seems to be a high stress area. Wondering if any body else has had this problem ?? Any and all suggestions and ideas welcome. Thanks

I am new to this, so i will have to figure out how to get a Pic. into this message, any help appreciated. Thanks

my advice would be to gradually grind away from the crack until you can figure out whats going on there. from your pic, it doesn't like like it would be much of a problem to repair but i'd wanna make sure i understood what was going on before i repaired it.

Looks like a stress crack. grind a V into the crack grind more onto the stringer than the floor. Fuser makes a structural adhesive for fiberglass / wood grind around 1/2 inch deep put a 1/4 of fuser in the groove put a piece of fiberglass cloth ( looks likes a silk rag) 1/2 inch wide the length of crack then another bead of fuser. allow it to cure 4 hrs. then sand 2 inches out the length of crack cut a piece of fiberglass mat (stringy) 1 inch wide another 1.5 inches wide and another 2 inches wide brush fiberglass resin on fuser repair 2inches wide put the 1 inch wide mat on crack center the whole length then brush more resin until it looks clear then 1.5 wide on top more resin then 2 inch more resin allow to dry over night scratch it up with 150 grit sand paper cover with primer and paint and your done Fuser is sold at autobody supply stores. Glued 3 fins under a ski boat last year after owner hit something and ripped them off. Dale
