I just bought a 1989 272 SR1 W.O. engines. it had a pair of 330 HP Big Blocks in it. On the drivers side of the floor in the engine compartment about even with the front motor mount there is a delamination the width of the of the bottom between the center stringer and the right side stringer. There is a strengthing piece of either wood or some kind of laminate that is glassed in for strength, this is a piece that has been there since the boat was built. I can slide a knife blade into the crack which is about 10" long but I dont feel anything solid in there. Just wondering if there was a piece of wood in there or some other type of strengthner ?? I suppose the best way to fix it is to cut the mat out and see whats under it ?? it would be a lot easier to just sand it out and lay another piece of mat over it. I also noticed that over on the left side it is starting to crack in the same place seems to be a high stress area. Wondering if any body else has had this problem ?? Any and all suggestions and ideas welcome. Thanks
