CRUISING THE NORTHERN GULF COAST/FLORIDA PANHANDLE

We just wish to inform those who fear to go to the Gulf Coast because of last year's oil spill/ tragedy that all is well. We 3 ladies just completed the first 400 miles of our annual cruise from Lake Pontchartrain to east of Panama City...Florida panhandle. The waters are emerald green as advertised..seafood wonderful as usual, scenery spectacular and a wonderful cruise. The beaches are clean and white. We will leave the boat a couple of weeks in Destin then make the return trip home. We anchored 4 nights and stayed 2 nights in marinas. Boating anywhere is wonderful but this area is beautiful and often challenging for the one at the helm and the navigator. There are miles of open water of the Gulf and some distance within barrier islands.

I write this to help dispel the belief that there is oil everywhere. In areas of our southern Louisiana marshes,,yes..but not widespread. If you wish pics, I will gladly share if you e-mail to me. We recommend this area as a destination..by land or by sea!!!

good to hear from ya Ethel! i'm glad to hear yall are havin' a good time and everything is well. stay safe and have a great trip ;)

Thanks for the update Ethel, that is FANTASTIC news about the Gulf. Even though I am a northern boater, I was very concerned about the impact the oil spill would have on not only our boating friends and marine industry in the south, but the impact on the ecosystem there. I'm surprised nobody else has thought to report about the conditions down there, and I am grateful you have enlightened everyone here. That is very exciting to hear. And thank you for the wonderful pictures!!!! :)

GREETINGS GENTLEMEN

We three ladies have just returned from the Destin Florida area, back to the northern shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Shorter trip this year..about 700 miles total divided in two 8 day trips. Beautiful water..emerald green, white beaches, several nights anchored out..fishing in Pensacola inlet etc. We urge you to try this for a cruise..not just for the Loopers... Fish caught..spec trout and flounder. Cruised about 25-28 mph burning 1 gallon per mile with 2 tons of our stuff..no doubt!!! mrss396..did you ever anchor at marker 51..Spectre island...family fun...

37 PC I thought i was saving my boat for you...looks brand new....but I am not parting with it just yet..you may be ready again when I am ready to retire from boating..[to do what I have no clue]} My boating buddies wanted a bigger boat at first but this 37 is a great one, versatile, big, not too big..Easy to maneuver, anchor, and can take our gulf coastal weather.. sad now as I repack it to wait another year!!..If any of you travel to the area then i will have an excuse to meet you..

Hi Ethel, glad to hear all went well! So do I understand this correctly......you're putting the boat away for the year? I do want to buy your boat, do you think you'll be ready to sell next year? ;D A 37 PC with diesel I/O's would be a dream for me!

No not put away..just no long cruise of a week or so but once a year over to Florida....stay closer to home. Not ready next year....diesel inboards I have...not outdrives...
