Depth Finder Gauge for 330 SS

Newb here. I just bought a 1998 330 SS this year. The dash/electronics are OEM, and the depth finder gauge was sunbaked and finally gave out. It worked, but the LCD strip delaminated from the circuit board from the heat. Anyhow, I now have a hole in the dash where the gauge is and no way to tell depth. Has anyone replaced one of these - I guess Lowrance doesn't make this model (or one like it) anymore. I think it was a 3500.

Eventually, I'd like to get a GPS/Depth Finder to put on the other side of the dash, but that doesn't fix the hole that's driving me nuts right now.

Thanks for the help.

I have the same situation. Depth finder and speedometer that won't work. Santa brought me a Garmin Echomap UHD 74SV + transducer for Christmas. I'm going to install it in the space on the port side of the dash like you mentioned. I think I may get a blank dash template and get rid of the speedometer and depth finder and respace out the remaining gauges so everything looks symmetrical.

Hi Jack,
That sounds like an awesome idea and Christmas gift. That's probably what I'm going to do. I'll probably make a blank for the hole in my dash (3D print or machine??) that looks cool and put the chartplotter/fishfinder on the other side flush mount. Quick question for you - why'd you go with the 74 and not the 73, etc.? It looks like it has a touchscreen which is attractive to me. I'm guessing that you checked the fit in that spot in the dash. There's some fiberglass to be cut after the coverplate is removed so you can flush mount. Do you have to make a custom coverplate with a cutout for the mount to finish it off? Sorry for the questions, but I want to make sure I know what I'm getting in to before I commit.

Thanks,

my Lowrance depth finder crapped out last year. My game plan is to install a new one end-to-end, replacing the sender, wiring, and gauge. I have a Hawkeye unit ready to go, but you will probably have to (or want to) replace the entire thing regardless of the brand you choose.

Ramblin' I believe the 74 is more of a coastal unit which is where I boat and the 73 is better on lakes. I am pretty sure the unit will fit but can always dash mount it it I had to. I have a pretty big hammer so I'll make it fit.I am going to try and re-use the blank plate that is covering that spot now. Looks like the previous owner had something in that space because there has already been some fiber removed.

I've been thinking some more about this (which always creates trouble ;-)). I'm probably going to add the Hawkeye depth sounder like Ted suggests above (just to fill the hole in my dash). I hope the Formula factory plastic bezel clamp fits on the Hawkeye to hold it to the dash panel and I'll have to run a new transducer line to the back of the boat and epoxy it to the hull. However, I'd still like to look into getting the chart plotter/depth plotter to flush mount into the space on the dash. What I'm curious about is if my engines are too old to be able to find a simple way to put a NMEA 2000 bus in that would send engine data back to the plotter that I buy. I think the Garmin 94 amd 74 take engine data, but it has to be in NMEA 2000 format and my 98 7.4LX MPI engines may not be set up to put out that sort of data. I'm hoping maybe someone else here has done this or looked into why it can't be done cost effectively. This will directly impact the decision on which unit I buy.

Ted, do you think the Hawkeye depth sounder head unit fits the Formula plastic bezel/mount that flush mounts it to the dash, or do I have to modify/make a new one?

If I recall . . . it is a 2-1/4" round mount, which should be similar to the other smaller gauges at the helm. If it needed cutting, it may not be much.

Dash blank with Garmin

Did you build the dash with the Garmin flush mounted? I want to do the same thing, I would love to see what it looks like.

Thanks

MY gauge still works but did install a chart plotter which also has depth. Have yet to redo the helm because I would need to replace all the gauges. Don't need the speed-o so I'll have more room to work with. Installed a hawkeye (smaller one) on my seadoo and it would only work about a month and go out. Replaced it twice before I gave up and paid the price for a factory one

If someday my original lawrance goes out, I'm going to try and mount it inside like the original instead of mounting it outside. See if it will shoot thru the hull
