DirecTV Installation Question

Does anyone have any advice on how to retrofit DirecTV on to a '07 31PC? I am thinking I would go with a permanent dish for the dock and a Winegard RD-9046 folding dish when on the 'road' and docked. So far so good. Where I start to run into trouble is when I am trying to noodle through how I am going to wire up the 2 receivers that the admiral has spec'ed. Is there anyway to to this without running an individual cable to the second receiver (I assume I can just use the existing cabling for the first receiver)?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Jeff

JEFF,
I KNOW DISH NETWORK HAS A DUAL RECEIVER THAT IS JUST ONE BOX, AND CAN BE LOCATED ANYWHERE. YOU STILL NEED COAX TO THE SECOND TV, THOUGH. I DO NOT KNOW IF DIRECT TV HAS THE SAME BOX OR NOT.

2 receivers will require a dual LNB dish for DirecTV. you have to run a cable from the dish to each box. you can also use one box and split the cable after the box on the way to 2 diff tv's. however you will on get the same channel on both sets.

I have 5 box's, 4 in house and 1 on the boat.

That's what I was afraid of. I guess I'll have to get in there on Saturday and see how hard it will be to run a second cable to either of the screens.

Thanks.

I wired the TV in the salon (kitchen cabinet) to the DTV box. and then use the one in the aftcabin with cable when at the dock. so i get both cable and sat. kids watch cable and we watch sat.

they actually make a switch to turn a dual lnb with 2 outputs into 4. Look online they might make the same switch for a single. Good Luck

I have friend that tried the switch/splitter. it did not work.

As a follow-up: This has worked out very well. After a few 'practice' set-ups it only takes me about 3-5 minutes to set up the portable antenna (I bungee it to the railing above the anchor pulpit).

It would be very hard to justify the expense of a KVH system at this point.

(just thought I would complete this thread)

So you are just mounting a on land dish to your railing. When the boat rocks, dont you loose signal?

Surprisingly, very little. Gentle rocking and tides don't have a major impact. Of course once in a while if we get hit by something jarring it will fritz out for a few seconds but it hasnt been a big deal. Also, we are talking about when I am tied up to a dock. On the hook it just doesnt work very well (and I refuse to run the genny for TV viewing purposes anyway).
