Engine compartment/bilge heater

I have a covered slip and will be keeping my 41 PC in the water this winter. I’m going to winterize the engines and generator and everything else that requires winterization. I may also put a heating unit in the engine room as well.

Since there is not an electrical outlet in the engine compartment I’ll need to run the cord up through the hatch somehow. Has anyone else used a heater in the engine compartment? How did you run your electric cord from the heater to an outlet? Thanks

I'll answer my own question from last year. I found an access plate on the port side. It's located in the storage compartment just aft of the icemaker on the bottom. This plate gives access to the engine compartment. I just ran the cord up through that access port into the storage compartment then out to the outlet just forward of the icemaker.

I think keeping the temperature up in the engine room will help with condensation prevention and provide a better environment for the 6 batteries I have down there. It costs very little to run the heater. It only turns on when the temp falls to about 42 degrees. Belt and Suspenders.

Old trick, but not too safe. Highly recommend an approved heater. I know you have diesels, but there are gas boat owners that follow this thread and may not know that an engine heater must be approved for boats with gasoline.
