Fireboy Carbon Monoxide Detector Replacements.

Has anyone replaced their Fireboy CO detectors. Looks like I have model CMD4 models, both have reached end of life. I don't see this model anymore. I guess it's been replaced. Anyone know the new model? Thanks in advance.

Yes, I had the same issue with mine a year or two back. I had the same experience with the CMD4 being no longer available. I went to Boatstore.com and purchased the
Fireboy-Xintex CMD5-MD CO Alarm, 12 / 24 vdc for $87.25. This was I think in 2019. Sold my boat earlier this month and sent all the instructions along with my paperwork in a file to the new owner. PM with questions if you need help.

Thanks for the info. Just looked it up. They have good info on their site, for install and upgrade. I guess I'll order up a couple.

You're welcome. The CMD4's had the ability to exactly time out at 5 years of life (Probably had a clock chip on it which corresponded to the date of manufacture). For the first few years you used to be able to buy a replacement board. When I called a few years back, they said they had discontinued that program and thus you had to buy the new CMD-5's. The instructions for installation were very straightforward and the new ones had even a lower power draw. The LED showing power to the unit only flashes like once every three minutes. At first I thought, why don't I get the LED on like the CMD4? Then I read the instructions and had to watch closely during those few minutes for the flash.

The CMD-5s have a 7 year lifespan. Although they are larger, they fit into the same holes that were drilled for the 4s. Wherever you purchase, make sure you get stock that is dated new, as the year clock starts when it was manufactured. If you get stock that's been sitting around a while, you've lost some time.

The new ones have a 7 year life, as opposed to the 5 year life on the previous version. Careful who you order from. The lifespan of the unit starts from manufacture date, not installation date, so if you get one that’s been sitting on a shelf a long time…. You get it. Best to purchase from a high volume seller who goes through inventory rapidly. I paid a few bucks more and got mine from the manufacturer.. Got two that were less than a week old.

similar to pyrotechnic signal devices. I would alway look through the flares to get the newest ones on the shelf. I was in West Marine and all of the ones they had were about 15 months old. So I asked them for a discount and they gave me a third off. Now I use the electronic flares that don’t expire.

Brilliant on the electronic flares. Had no idea and was just about to purchase new pyrotechnic ones. Comodave - is there one you prefer?

I have this one. But I see on Amazo it is currently unavailable. Don’t know why but if it is CG approved any of them should be fine.
