I am planning a trip across Lake Okechobee to the west coast. Looking for anchorages and marina recommendations. Should be out there for around 2 weeks. Will be staying at Sanibel marina a few days.

South Seas, Cabbage Key, Gasparilla Marina... can go on and on depending where you want to go and what you would like to see

IDCE we have been to south seas may stop there again. Considering Cabbage key is that at a marina or on the hook. Gasparilla good possibility. Planning on leaving some time next week.

I don't get it. All that great boating on the west coast of FL and only 2 responses. One of them from a Jersey guy. What's up with that???

Ill respond but I’m new to the area and would be no help, I am watching your post to gather more info for myself, so far I point the boat in one direction and go LOL sad but true

Gwazoo when Split and I towed down in Nov '14 we reached out to the locals to see if anyone wanted to get together and we didn't receive any response online. Met a couple Formula owners at our stops that weren't on the forums.

I have vacationed/boated that area my whole life. Most likely will be towing down somtime in April for a little vacay.

I just guess that most people on this forum are from up northeast. As a X NewYorker I am splitting my time between NC and FL. I do see quite a few Formulas on the east coast of FL.

I am up in Clearwater and know the area as fas south as Port Charlotte. How far north are you coming or are you staying in and around Ft Myers and Naples?

Back in the late 90s, we had a 55 Sea Ray in Tampa. We'd often go to the South Seas/Captiva (Bubble Rooms is a must) and down to Key West. I remember the sand bars often shifted in Tampa Bay, it was pretty shallow... However that could be because the inlet of the house.

Joe if you aren't familiar you might wanna check our Active Captain. There is a wealth of info there from cruisers like yourself. Its free and a lot of cool capabilities.

I have been having a lot of trouble with active captain mainly because I am terrible with computers. I need an eight year old. I do use waterway guide which has a wealth of information. I do find a lot of info from locals that are boaters.

I'm probably too late on this (by a few months, ha!) but this is my area. I keep my boat at Gasparilla. Cabbage Key is great, but nothing to do there aside from eat, drink and be eaten alive by noseeums. Their marina is tiny, decent facilities though, not a lot of overnighters there. I consider it more like camping in an RV. Boca Grande has some great beaches and a few places to tie up for lunch or dinner (backside of Boca). Cayo Costa is a state park, people can camp there but no amenities on the island otherwise. Great shelling and empty beaches. Fishermen's Village in Charlotte Harbor is a good night or two. Lots within walking distance into downtown Punta Gorda. Running down to Ft Myers Beach is my favorite. Try Pink Shell Resort and Marina. Their rates are high during season, but manageable now. Boaters staying with them get full access to the resort amenities and the place is walking distance from downtown shops, bars, etc. Venice has Fisherman's Wharf Marina, good bar and restaurant there and quick walk over the bridge into downtown. These are just a few of my favorites. If you already made your trip, try a few of these next time!
