Flushing Volvo D6's

I know there are a few guys with d6's and DPH outdrives on here. How are you guys flushing your motors? Muff's or are you using something else? I tried to flush with muff's last weekend and couldn't get any water to come out of the exhaust. I'm I doing something wrong? I just moved from a dry stack to a lift so I now I have to do it myself.
Thanks,
Aaron

I have pods, but assume the water intake is the same.

I turn off the hull intake, then I disconnect the main line going into the pump , under the strainer. Then I've rigged a 5 gallon bucket connected to a short hose to the intake side of the now exposed water pump. Easy Peasy

I have pickup's on the drives, there isn't a through hull. that is basically how the manual says to do it but would think there would be a faster way. Do you do this every time you run the boat?

Sorry no I do not do this every time I run the boat....

I think if you needed to do this every time I would create a t in the main intake line and put in a valve and go that route

I could not find muffs to fit DPH to winterize. I seen pictures of a vp 400ss with fresh water flush. Looks like it was spliced in before the sea water pump.

I have tried numerous ideas since I am on a trailer. What I ended up using is a standard merc muff with the stainless rod going through the center with a retainer clip. On a DPH lower the intake grate is plastic. I drilled a small hole through both grates just big enough for the stainless muff rod to go through. You can drill straight through from one side to the other, there is nothing in the cavity between. The needed hole is smaller that the grate slots so no issue with more junk in the intake. You also need a 5/8" transom plug for the low water hole at the bottom of the drive. Its really simple and that way you get all the salt out of the drive and raw water pump.

Here is what I came up with on this... Seems to work pretty well. I'll snap a few pictures of where the hose hook up are when I'm down at the boat later today.

Do you have a way to keep water from going out the drive inlet?

I don't but I don't need it. I was concerned about that but I basically copied another guys design on Boatdiesel.com. He had a 2" shut off valve but said he only used it to winterize. The pump has enough suction to grab all the water.
Also when you run the water with the engine off it will back flush the drive. So I hook it up and let it run for a few minutes with the engine off to flush the drive then turn the motor on to flush the motor.
