Hi everyone,

I am considering moving to a Formula 290 BR and wondering if any of you currently trailer your 290 BR? What type of truck do you find works well and what brand of trailer do you use? Can anyone tell me what is the overall height of the boat on the trailer with the optional arch? From the specifications I have seen online for the 290, it appears the boat should be slightly less than 12 feet total height on the trailer to the top of the arch. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks,

The issue you will have with towing is the 9' beam. Anything over 8'6" requires a permit. The overall height will be dependent on what trailer it sits on. The dry weight is 8950 pounds not including any fuel or junk you have in the boat or the trailer. The trailer is gonna be at least 2000 pounds for a triaxle trailer. You can pull this with a heavy duty 1/2 ton that has a tow rating of 12k or better but would be best towed with a 3/4 ton. Pulling that weight isn't the issue but stopping it is. Be sure to get a good trailer with either electric or electric over hydraulic brakes. Surge brakes wont work for this application.

Thank you for your reply. I was aware of the extra 6 inches of width and OK with acquiring the permit to tow. I also agree with the 3/4 ton truck as you are right it is very easy to add an addition up to 3,000 in weight for fuel, trailer and gear. Better to be safe on the road. Appreciate your comments about the brakes as I wasn't aware surge brakes alone would not work properly in this application. I have surge brakes now and they work fine for a smaller lighter craft, but can see the benefits of electric.

With respect to the height, more concerned about storage on the trailer. I have a 12 foot door (height) to get under and just wondering how tall the 290 is sitting on a trailer. Most trailers have the keel sitting about 18 inches from the ground. Just not sure how tall the overall boat is from keel to top of the arch. I was thinking about the stainless arch as a possibility as I believe it can be tipped towards the windshield if need be. However I prefer the fixed fiberglass arch more so. Any thoughts on the overall height of the 290 with the glass arch?

I wouldn't worry to much about the extra 6 inches unless your state, or states it's pulled thru are strict

Contact Formula TAG, they can provide needed height info
