Fresh water pump replacement

Fresh water pump went into lock down mode last week so I ordered a replacement. Since I'm pretty fond of the products offered by Whale I decided to go with one of their fresh water pumps as a replacement, pressure and PSI ratings were virtually the same. My boat is SO old that is has the grey 1/2 water line. The whale pump comes with 1/2 fittings but the inlet and outlet are opposite of what was in the boat so some additional pipe work needs to be done. Wondering if i can use PEX or Whale tubing from my water tank to the pump and then on the outlet side would need to somehow convert from the PEX or Whale tubing back to the grey stuff. The Whale tubing is sized at either 12mm or 15mm, neither of which equates to 1/2". Also not familiar with removal of the Whale fittings once they are inserted together to make a connection, the website says no special tools needed but how do they come back apart?

Push the hose and inner ring in, while holding the inner ring pull to remove the line. After you do it a couple times it's easier to understand.

Make sure you notice how far it comes out. When you go to reassemble the connection, be sure it seats all the way back in. It's like a half inch to the fully seated position.

That helps, all ya have ta do is mash the thingamajiggy then pull out the whatchamacallit!! Looks simple enough. To update where I'm at with this it appears that PEX/SharkBite makes a transition coupler specifically designed to go from the grey stuff which is called PB (polybutelyne i think??) to PEX. So I can either go with the push to connect fittings or the stainless crimp fittings. The crimp fittings require a special tool and the push to connect ones don't. Since everything I'm replacing is relatively accessible I think i'll use the push to connect fittings and see how they do. Is this what they are using in the new boats now or is it the Whale stuff?

All Whale, as far as I know. Make sure you are using the proper fitting on the plumbing. It is clearly marked right on it. Size DOES matter.

The Whale pump was supplied with the fittings for both the Whale tubing, NPT and hose barbs. I temporaried the hose barbs last weekend and tried to make sure no one left the water turned on. my hopefully permanent fix is the pex stuff. I'm a little concerned about going from plastic to brass on three of the fittings but there really isn't a good alternative. At least that I can figure out.
