GAS SPILLAGE FROM VENT

ANYONE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH GAS SPILLING OUT THE VENTS? I AM IN THE PROCESS OF UPGRADING DECK FILLS TO THE NEW STYLE FORMULA USES ON THE 06'S. VENT IS NOW BUILT INTO THE DECK FILL, AND CANNOT LEAK OUT WHEN FUELING OR FROM EXPANSION.  
 
I HAVE HAD INSTANCES WHERE AFTER FUELING, GAS WILL COME OUT THE VENT DUE TO ROCKIN AND ROLLIN FROM BOATS GOING BY. TANKS WERE NOT OVERFILLED. GAS HAS STAINED THE IMRON CLEAR COTE, AND COULD NOT BE REMOVED.
 
When you walk around the boat yard in the early spring on a hot day the gas will expand and run out the vents due to being filled in cooler weather in the fall. Bad time to walk the yard somking a cigarette ::)
 
I've had the same problem. Fill up at pump after returning from a day or weekend of boating and gas drips out the side for a day or so. I don't fill up all the way anymore.
 
I put a surge protector that I ordered from West since the vent line is lower than the fuel filler. When the ball insde starts rattling it's time to quit fueling otherwise it will still spit fuel out the vent.

Castines, the part number for the West Marine surge protector is 303851. It's made by Atwood. Sorry I don't have picture of it.
 
I filled up my new boat twice last season and did not see any spillage, I ued the smartcrat to tell me when it got close and stopped it before it overflowed. I guess I'll make sure to fill up at leaving time and not at returning.
 
I filled up a few time last year when coming home since gas was going up 3 or 4 times a week. While sitting in the driveway and gettinf warm and expanding I wound up with some nasty stains down the side.
I saw a catch can for sale on Speedwake.com. Ok while fueling but not sure about two days later in the driveway ???
 
THE NEW STYLE FILLERS SEEM TO BE THE ANSWER. I GUESS THATS WHY FORMULA USES THEM NOW ON NEW MODELS.
