Gel coat repair.

Im looking to repair a couple of gouges that apparently occured during my winter layup, and the marina has no idea how it happened.. Anyways, Im a little hesitant to take sand paper to my nice shiny gel coat after applying the repair. Does anyone know what would be the correct steps of sandpaper grit to make sure that i have a level, clean, and most of all, shiny finish? The repairs are in the white so I don't need to do any color tinting..

after you match the color clean the area with rubbing compound carefully mask the edges with fine line masking tape (automotive grade) then go over it with masking tape cover at least 2 inches wide. brush gelcoat in scratch. build it up.... after drying sand with 150 grit sandpaper use a small rubber block not your fingers. sand until you touch the fine line tape. then wet sand with 320 then 600 grit. remove tape sand with 1000 grit (with small rubber block) then 1200 and buff.
