Go away, Hurricane Sandy

We are down here in Stuart Fl staying aboard, although the boat is on a lift. Winds and rain have been picking up all day on and off. Maybe 30 kts. tonight and tomorrow calling for 45 kts. Not so bad. V1 you look like you may be in for some action.

Good luck down there Gwazoo. We're hoping for the best in the Mid-Atlantic, and for those up in NJ, NY, and points further north. And I thought we were safely through this season....

For once I'm happy my boat was put away for the winter. Still a lot of boats in the water in MD. Could be a very serious storm.

Lots of marine activity on in LA, CT, NY based on AIS data. Not as much going on in VA/MD. Surprised the whole coast isn't scrambling. :-\

I hate this sorta thing. Makes my stomach turn to think of people just trying to save their possessions.

Well, I left my boat in the water when Irene hit and stayed on the island (Long Beach Island in NJ) and got throught it. It was a fast storm and hit us during low tide and we made it safely. This Sandy storm is slow and will be around for couple of days and will actually hit the island which is just north of Atlantic City at high tide. My boat is already on the hard but it is in my driveway on the island and I expect a lot more flooding this time. During Irene we had about 3 to 4 feet of water on the main street and no water reached my house but I expect that will change this time with the tides and length of time this will go on.

I was already told by my wife that I must leave the island this time and I will, I am going however to try to get a camera setup to watch via Internet activities on the island around my house. I am on pilings and high enough and don't expect any flooding issues but there are a lot of houses that are not around me.

Yeah this storm is not going to be fun here at the Jersey Shore. I jacked my boat up a bit on the trailer and lowered the trailer onto blocks to make sure she's grounded as good as I can. I was going to put my winter cover on but I am just going to hold off on that and let the mooring cover do the job. I'm going to batten down all the patio furniture and try to secure the gazebos.

Irene took out a transformer up the street blew and spewed sparks all over. The power kept trying to reboot and the transfer kept shorting out. There was no damaging flooding in my town, and no flooding on my street at all so hopefully we get lucky again although they are predicting it to hit at high tide and the top tails to force the waters in. We will see.

Hi all just back in reality. Been in the BVI's on vacation. The water at Viking yachts is over the bulkhead and they are moving the boats already on the hard to higher ground. Have photos, water is just hitting the keels. My boat is still in the water battened down by my friends. We can't get back til Thursday due to storm. Was supposed to land at 11:50pm tonight. Hope you all stay safe!

Good luck with the boat....and getting home, Steve. Rude awakening from vacation, huh?

Man, its real sad around here at the Jersey shore. Nothing will be the same and all the reasons why people live here.and.come here to visit are destroyed.

LBI4fun, im not sure where your house is but i hope somehow its not one of the many devestated.

Well, the house and boat made it fine. I am high enough and flooding did not get but have not been able to get on the island so far. Friends across the street stayed on the island and sent few pictures but I really need to see around the house to know for sure. The boat was sitting in the driveway and started floating but stayed between the two houses and now it is resting on the blocks and leaning against the house next to us. That is better than being on the street.

They are not letting anyone on the island but it is a big mess and probably will take a long time to recover. Some of my friends are still trying to located their boats that were stored in marinas and lots.

My house in Flemington made it but I have 7 great pine trees covering my driveway and blocking the garage, no electricity and wires pulled off the utility pole and house. It will take a very long time for this area to recover and get back to normal.
