Grill and Fishing on a 37PC

My wife and I are new owners of a 37PC. Can anyone recommend a good grill? I would like to be able to serve some steaks to friends while we are out on the water. Also, what kind of mount works best? Where do you recommend placing it?

Also, although I recognize that the PC is not a fishing boat, I would love to occasionally do a little fishing from the boat. Can the boat go slowly enough to do any trolling? I am keeping the boat on Lake Michigan. Also, any recommendations for an out rigger system that I can use on the boat?

I use a Magna grill which mounts on a pole with a base plate on the swim platform. We cook out alot it's perfect.

mounted my Magma with a flush mount set up on the outside bar. some people also swear by the small Weber grill but it has to be set on a table or dock, never seen anybody mount one of them.

I have the magna grill and swim platform/flush mount base plate also...works great!!! Grill most meals.
Don't fish the boat, too much mess in the cockpit, too much fuel burn.

Thank you all. gwazoo27 and summersled, do you have the same size Magma as Formula Tenn? Would the larger Magma work the same?

As for fishing, I am going to find a way to do some fishing. I can minimize the mess, and a little fuel burn is no big deal. I just need to figure out the best arrangement. Any help from anyone who has done it would be appreciated

I fish and crab pretty regularly on my boat. Take up the cockpit carpet, install a couple of clamp on rod holders on the rear hatch, and you're good to go. I don't usually troll, just drift while fishing. Of course I anchor for crabbing. Swim platform makes a great casting area, and good for pulling in crab lines or traps.
Just make sure you wash down any blood of fish scales, before it dries, makes clean up that much easier.
Most of all enjoy the sport.

I have the large magna grill. I think it is called the party size. The best part about the grill on the pole is that you can put as much weight in it and it can't go any where. I use to have a rail mount and it was always sliding down.

I also have the larger Magna grill, Cabo model (I think). The pole mount also keeps any drips on the swim platform.

We have a clamp on rod holder on the grab rails on the side of the arch for fishing poles. They are out of the way when not in use. Have both a George Foreman & Magma grill.

I have a 37pc and am addressing the grill issue now. Formula sells the mount that slides into the side of the swim platform temporarily. It is a very clean install and nearly invisible when not is use but fairly costly. If anyone has pics they are willing to share, it would be appreciated.

If I am at the dock I store it in my dock box. If we are out on the water I have made a padded plastic case that is attched to the step in the engine compartment and can be taken out when not in use.

A little late to the discussion, but here's my solution. A recessed seat baseplate with matching removable seat post. Works great. I put up a small plastic folding table for all the tools and such along side a folding boat deck chair. Heaven, pure Heaven.
sterngrill.jpgI removed all the superfluous fender racks from the stern storage trunk. The grill fits in there (starboard side) perfectly. Pics to come.

IMG_0125.jpgWe have a Magma mount that is mounted on our 2014 37PC swim platform. We attach a Magma Monterey to it and have had no issues at all. We were turned away from the Formula option because it would not support the size of grill that we wanted. This is our second Formula with same mount installed and I highly recommend it.

I ended up fabricating an "undermount" setup. I made an aluminum "receiver" (think low profile trailer hitch reciever) mounted under the platform, out of sight, about 12" back. This catches the 1" thick aluminum "base" that I slide in. The base has a flag pole holder attached which I attach the upright pole. I didn't want a base that was visible on the top of the platform.

I also made a tray/basket setup to hold my tools etc. We're not allowed to grill at the dock with open flame (we have electric grill mounted to the dock for that), so this us only used while anchored out.

Mmmmmm, I have not seen this mount. What I've seen Formula do is have a mount that requires drilling into the STBD Side of the transom and then the have a mount that installs into that....but it is not temporary, or at least I am not aware of one that is.

I do remember seeing pics at one point, I will try searching when I get a moment.

I also have this exact same mount. I like it because you screw it into the platform but there isn't a large hole to drill in the center for the pole. You only use it when at anchor or the dock, you don't travel with the grill on the pole. I use it with this grill, which I am very happy with. Gets really hot and cooks quickly:

The only thing I wish I did was mount it closer to the edge of the platform. When it drips, it would be closer to the water. I don't BBQ much on the boat since our marina has large gas grills that we prefer to use, but enjoy doing it when at anchor. In my opinion, the further out the better, using it now for years, that's the only change I'd do differently.
