Just had a harmonic balancer fail on my starboard engine with 28 total hours on it. The rubber dampener ring broke and fell off leaving the metal balancer wheel to flop around making a pretty good racket. I suspect this happened on start up as I had not heard the metallic noise when I had docked the boat the day before. The loose balancer nicked the nearby fresh water cooling supply hose and almost put a hole in it. I'm told there have been several other cases of this happening in recent months. Anybody have this problem?
