Head-ache! Vacuflush problem....

My 4 year old 310SS has a VacuFlush toilet that is not building up sufficient vacuum to flush. Dometic said to first replace the duck bills on the vacuum generator since they have never been replaced. Formula tells me the vacuum generator is located in the cabin compartment behind the toilet and right under the helm, which is a tight area to crawl into and work. I believe the A/C unit is also located in the same compartment.

It appears that I will have to lie down and may only be able to reach one arm into this compartment to change out the parts on the vacuum generator.

Has anyone done this operation before? Any advice or ideas as to how to easily do this?

Yeah well aside from where yours in located, it might be a bit of a stinky job, depending on how well your systems is kept clean. Get a pair of rubber gloves and make sure you clean the scale off the old housing before you install the new duckbills. very common failure point.

it is not a terribly difficult job, should take about an hour...other than of course if you have troubles getting to it like you mentioned.

Thanks for the tips!

Hopefully, it's fairly clean as it is only used maybe a half dozen times a year. I typically flush the tank and run the macerator after each use, then add some Dawn to slosh around while running, then fully drain the tank again.

Got lucky today, the head starting working again...green light and flushing worked! Not sure what happened, but glad it self-repaired itself.

If the holding tank's "full" float sticks in the full position due to fouling, it kills power to the vacu-flush unit. Maybe this happened. Did you notice a red "full" light on your tank watch monitor when this was going on?

No "full" light, holding tank was emptied a couple of times to be sure and level showed empty. Thought the same thing, maybe float had stuck.

My house battery seems a little weak...would that have anything to do with the vacuum-flush reaching a full vacuum? When I checked the head a few days later and the vacuum-flush started working again, the boat was on shore power.

Will slosh some Dawn around next time out to clean tank and float.

Although we're underway more often, head only gets used maybe once a month. Probably need to flush and run the macerator each time out just to keep everything clean and working.
