How to winterize a generator

Great forum....I think this is my first post.

Anyways, bought a 08 31PC after many happy years in a 99 27PC. So now I have a genny and I am not familiar with the exact process to winterize. Have the new Low Emission Kohler...

Since it is fuel injected, would I need to fog the engine like good old regular engines (the fuel injected method that is)

What about running antifreeze, would I just crack open the intake after the thru hull and run a few gallon through.

Thanks in advance....

Few ways to go about it.

Shut off the valve open the strainer and pour antifreeze into the strainer.

unhook the hose from the strainer and feed in the antfreeze that way, rig up funnel or some type of fitting and gravity feed.

I use a small pump and a large plastic concrete mixing bin to do everything but the fresh water. Fill the concrete tub up, put in the pump with a hose and connect to anything that needs antifreeze, turn on the pump, start the engine, geni, AC etc.... I drain everything before I run the antifreeze thru. This way has less chance of getting diluted from existing water in the block etc....

I am sure others will chime in ;D

toofast,
i feel it is a must to fog anything that will sit for a few months. just spray ligfht fogging oil into the air intake and choke the genset out. should give cylinders a good oil coating. i always change spark plugs in the spring after getting the oil burnt out.

compromise,
dealers can miss stuff, especially since they do a hundred or so at a time. we've seen many water lines break, and hot water tanks cracked over the years due to someone missing something. i would not have anyone do mine except me. i know its done correctly, and logged. no one to blame but me.

Yeah, I hate to say it but I was burned once HUGE by a dealer...caused about $4,000 in damage and now I really do not trust most dealers to work on stuff unless required. So I learned everything to do a great job winterizing...and I just a need a few more tips.

I agree that I need to fog as well...not sure I can fog into the air intake on a Fuel Injected? Or maybe I am not sure where I would do that for sure?

Air intake on EFI is fine for fogging. Once you see a good amount of smoke out the exhaust just hit the kill switch/off button
