Hull blistering

I have a 2001 34PC that I've owned since new. It's been in freshwater the entire time(Tennessee River) and always with bottom paint. Recently I had the boat pulled to service the drives and found blisters on about 50% of the bottom. Small blisters under the bottom paint. Anyone have any experience with something like this?

Tennessee River huh?? where bouts? anyway, about your blisters. is the 50% spread out across the entire bottom or is it isolated to one or a few areas? by small do you mean pencil eraser small, dime small, etc.? have you removed the bottom paint to the gelcoat and actually opened up one of these blisters? you'll definitely need to repair them.

When the bottom paint was applied, was an epoxy barrier coat applied in addition to the primer or was just primer used.

Blisters cover a lot of the bottom. They are dime size and smaller. I don't believe an epoxy was applied. What puzzles me is the blisters developed under the bottom paint. A reply from Formula suggested how to repair it, but nothing about reason it may have happened. My thoughts are blisters under the bottom paint would indicate a hull/fiberglass/gelcoat issue. Won't know until the bottom paint is removed.

Boat has been in the Chattanooga area since new.

i think most all paint manufacturers recommend an epoxy barrier coat before bottom painting. my suggestion would be to make sure a barrier coat is applied AFTER the blisters are repaired and BEFORE any new bottom paint is applied. Pettit Paint has some really good info on their website about the barrier coat and bottom paint. you can also google fiberglass boat blisters and get plenty of info if you want to read up on the blister subject. also, have you ever repainted since she was new?

Chattanooga?? i live in Soddy Daisy and we keep our boat at Pine Harbor. i bet you ain't never heard of it have ya ;)
