Intermittent fuel gauge

I own an 09 Formula 40 Pc with IPS 500. When I purchased this boat in July I only had starboard fuel gauge. I checked ground, power and all other wires for loose or corroded connections. All are good. My issue is when you turn on port ignition fuel gauge doesn't work. When I turn on starboard ignition gauge works on starboard. I leave on and turn on port again and port gauge works. I switched ignitions switches and the opposite happens. This leads me to believe port has a bad ignition switch. Anyone else have this problem?

Sounds like something I ran across before. The dash is running everything from the same battery feed.
Try physically disconnecting one battery and see what works/starts/runs. record it and remove the battery cable from that battery and then do the same for the other side. reconnect the cable you removed and retest again ,record it.
If you need more help ,I`m central NJ

Thanks for your reply. question though, since I reversed ignition switches and opposite happened I dont if that would lead to the batteries since each engine has its own batteries. your thoughts?

It`s supposed to, but a Formula I work on had jumpers under the dash to combine both systems and the main ign feeds came off the same breaker. Has since be reconfigured to each motor has its own system and own battery
Do the above tests and report the results

On a side note...do you happen to have the Volvo Helm View display, assume not...but just by chance if you do what do those gauges read vs. the "mechanical" ones ?

I tested the gauges by turning off battery switches in engine room with same results. Port switch off , nothing on port engine. Vice versa. Also same results with parallel switch on or off. I can get the gauges to work going thru a sequence but will pursue finding source of issue
