In the next couple years we will need a bigger boat and seems like everything 40'+ and newer has pod drives. We boat in central Illinois and if anything would go wrong with a pod the boat would probably have to be hauled 4 hours up to Chicago or over to St. Louis. For this reason I am skeptical of even looking at boats with pods. Anyone else been in this situation or have any opinions that have experience with pods? Thanks in advance.

You are not alone in your thinking and here is how I would recommend you move forward.
I would contact Volvo Penta and let them know of your concerns. Ask them to supply you a list of dealers that service the pods and are mobile. Specify IPS knowledge as most repair facilities don't want to touch a pod. I would also reach out to Formula TAG and raise the same concerns. If they are selling you a boat, they should have authorized repair facilities that could possibly help with pod service.
