Anybody every install one of these?

we spend a lot of time on the hook, just floating behind the boat in some inflatables so the idea of a waterproof remote for the stereo sounds fantastic. that would keep me from having to hop out of the water to turn the volume up/down, and changing tracks/cd's/etc. looks like it works with the kenwood's that have a wired in-dash remote control, and you can keep the in-dash remote.

curious if anyone has tried it and liked it...

i have a friend that has one of these on his searay and he loves it. they can work the stereo while they are floating behind the boat.

very cool....sounds like it will work out. i've already ordered one, so i'll let you guys know how it works out...

I bought one of these 2 seasons ago, it works but there is a delay that is annoying. You want to turn it up a little bit so you hit the button on the remote, wait a few seconds, nothing, hit it again, nothing, hit it again, and all the sudden the stereo is blasting. It was more of an annoyance so I don't use it at all anymore.
I keep thinking If I extend the wires and mount it up high in the arch maybe it will work better but I have never really messed with it since I put it in.
Hope your experience is better.

well, i did the install today. easy as cake. seems to work pretty well. i walked about 3 slips away and it still controlled everything. i did notice a small delay at first, but once i figured out the remote, it seemed to work really well. i'll give it a good run this weekend, and let you know what i think.

macjazzy...did you think about whether or not the battery in the remote was any good? i couldn't help but think that it sounds like you have to lean on the buttons to get it to work, and maybe that's where the delay/stickiness is coming from??

just an idea,

I tried new batteries, didn't seem to make much difference. Mine is located behind the radio head unit just inside the entry way to the cabin. Walking down the docks to either side it seems to work fine for me. When I noticed a big problem is behind it, or in the water. I keep meaning to mount it in the arch and just extend the wires back to the radio and see if that helps. To be honest I just kind of lost interest in that project and moved on to others.

I would like to hear an update from you in a few weeks to see how feel about it. I don't know anyone else with one, so my issues could be related to the install or my particular boat. I would be interested to know. Also I was much happier with it till I used it a few times. So give us an update after a bit, please?

so, slight update. i finally saw what you referred to about touchy reactions by the remote. i do think it's mostly a problem with the antenna reception though. i can stand on the forward sunpad, and it works great because the antenna is right below me. however, if i go too far to port aft of the boat, it doesn't work well at all. starboard and aft...all is well. so, i think i'm going to move the receiver. it occurs to me that i should have installed it at the helm where the wired remote is. that will give me much better reception, and i think address the real issue.

outside of that, the only complaint that i have is that it's super sensitive. it comes with a cover for the remote...actually supposed to be use to mount a holder. i keep the cover on at all times because otherwise, i'll be changing cd's every time i sit down if the remote is in my pocket.

so far, i'd recommend it...with the obvious change in installation location.
