Kohler Generator runs indefinitely on "RUN" but stalls from Cabin if set to Auto?
This is on a 37PC I just bought. 450 hours on the boat and the generator has a weird issue with stalling out right away while using it on Auto. I changed the fuses, did a service, impellor, cleaned some connections, it will RUN, and charges the house batteries, but ONLY if manually started from the RUN position at the generator.
If I use the AUTO button, and then using the start button at the cabin panel, it will start and then it shuts off less than 5 seconds later? When I manually run it it will run seemingly forever, underway, at port, etc. without any errors. When it shuts off from the panel/cabin I get either 1) no error code (50% of the time) or 2) EC62 (50% of the time). I have already changed the fresh water intake impeller. It did run hot on me once and gave me an overheat error, and the anti-freeze tank filled and spilled over a little, so maybe I trashed the impellor that one time? Not sure why it overheathed that one time or if this is the issue. I have another impellor for this weekend just the same, 2 actually to have one around. But this may not be it? When it runs on manual there is tons of water coming out and it's warm like a bath, not cool, not scolding? Maybe I check the impeller again but it's odd that I would get an error on cockpit starting but NOT on manual? Are these things designed to not show errors when manually started? That seems dangerous. I can't find this info anywhere.
thanks all,
