Looking at a 2011 45 Yacht

Hey all! I'm very seriously considering a 2011 45 Yacht and just want your feedback on how happy you are with the boat? I don't love that Formula stopped making them and hope that's not an issue for parts in the future, but there is nothing else out there that I love as much as this boat's layout/style/performance. Plus, I'm just a Formula guy I guess. I'm coming from a 37pc with sterndrives and a little concerned about moving to pods. Would 2011 Pods in freshwater require any upgrades?

Anyway, just looking for some reassurance that this is as great of a boat as I believe it to be. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

I can tell you that we love our 2017 45 Yacht as you can see from my signature I was a very loyal Sea Ray guy for decades until thier designs and quality issues caused me to look at other manufacturers so during a two year time frame I looked at and ran many different boats and found the Formula 45 Yacht to be what we were looking for in style, quality, preformance, and customer service. When considering all of these attributes the Formula checked all of these boxes for us. Coming from Sea Ray I had to get used to some things like how they do the potable water system ( I wish they used a water manifold system and a deck plate so that you can add stabilizer or other things easily to the tank ) but other than that I have found the build quality and the thoughtful design to be amazing and at a level of a custom builder. Since they did not make a lot of these I constantly get people talking about how nice it looks on the water and asking for a tour of the boat when I'm at the dock. The boat preforms like a sports car in the way it jumps on plane and handles.

This is my first time in a pod boat and it has been a very good experience for me. We love how easy it is to maneuver around the dock as I can “ put it in the box it came in “ at any time during any conditions. It has made docking very easy for me and makes me look like a better captain than I am . My pods are a newer generation than on a 2011 but I have not had any issues with mine as they have preformed flawlessly for me. Just follow the maintenance schedule and get a good VoLvov technician that knows what he is doing and you should be fine.

As you know Formula supports their owners so I wold not be concerned about parts or support for a very long time as many of the parts they put on the new boats are the same parts that are on the 45 Yacht.

This is great to hear! Thanks for taking the time, Ray. I’m definitely looking forward to a lower stress docking scenario. I hear great things about performance. All the owners I’ve talked to seem to love the boat. Thanks again!!

The only bad thing I have heard is that the wife now takes the boat out without you, she no longer needs you to drive.
Only advice I can give is make sure you have a good Volvo service center nearby with IPS experience. I have a friend with a large Silverton that cannot get anyone to look at his IPS systems within 200 miles.

I’ll pile on now…2017 45Y similar to Ray‘s. We love ours as well. This is my 5th Formula, so pretty loyal too.

Lots of systems to learn, but I also came from a 37PC, but V-drive, and you will see many similar systems, just more of them.

We get many inquiries about the boat and have also done a bunch of tours, including our good friends who are SeaRay dealers. They also commented on the quality comparison.

We are starting the Loop in a couple weeks and plan on being on the boat for 9 of the next 11 months, that should tell you something as well!

Best of Luck,
Dave

Haha! Got it! Thank you!

Dave,

I am looking forward to hearing about your trip. I have often thought that the 45 would be a perfect boat for the loop. If you decide to make a detour into the Cumberland River to visit Nashville let we know and will Have dinner.
