Hi,
i have an 02 330ss, I’m looking for a chart plotter, thinking humminbird or garmin or
Ray Marine.

At first I just want to use the gps function, so I can tell where I am . I don’t need the depth or speed as I have good depth gauge and a gps speedo.also I’ll never use the fish finder
so, I need one with an internal GPS
i’m not travelling to far from sight of shore,I’m on Lake Huron, just like to know where
I am.

which make and model would you buy ?

thanks in advance

All manufacturers have decent units in the 7-9" category. Simrad Go7XSE/Go9XSE, Garmin 742xs/942xs, Furuno GP1871/1971, Raymarine Axiom 7/9. All comes down to user preference.

Going to check out a Raymarine Axiom 9, is it going to fit in my 330ss dash above the glove compartment I call it or do I mount it on top ?
anyone got one mounted in a 330ss ?
thanks

I started out with my Samsung pad and the navionics app clipped into a suction cup pad holder. That was on my 02 37PC. Recenlty got my 2019 240BR and had the Raymarine Axiom 7 factory installed. Pretty nice little toy. If you can fit the Axiom 9, definitely go bigger.

Looks like an Axiom 9 will not fit in dash, so going to get at getting an Axiom 7 RV with the 3d view.
thanks for all the help.

Any of the Axioms you can't go wrong. One thing I would recommend if you can is do a "Hybrid" Axiom, because a straight touch screen gets a little dicey when your in the thick of things. And with the hybrid you have the best of both worlds.

I would run the Navionics chip in it also as you will have much more capabilities and can do routing via a phone or tablet and send it to the plotter. I did it during the winter and charted out all the places and just uploaded them to the plotter.

And the app on any mobile device is a great back up, I run them at the same time.

For the Axiom if you flush mount it you might want to consider the remote card reader. Makes it easier for updates and upload/download data as the card slot is in the rear of the unit. Axiom Pro is in the front I believe.

You can also get the keypad so you have the benefit of buttons + touch but more $ and need another spot for it to mount it.

Actually, although you say you don't want the fish finder function, I use mine for a different reason. We don't fish at all on my boat----and I have a Raymarine E97 set up. I use the fish finder to see what the bottom looks like when I am about to throw the anchor over---rocky, muddy, how deep etc. Also, I agree about the hybrid because when underway touching the screen is a little of a challenge.

I have a Garmin 73CV and really like it. Touch screen works really well. A depth gauge is great until it goes from 12’ to 1’ - that’s where a chart plotter really makes it nice.

Any GPS will get you there but a chart plotter will get you there without hitting anything.

What was data plan cost per month on the Samsung?
