Merc Engine Running clicking sounds

I have twin Mercruiser 6.2 MPI Horizons. Launched my boat today and fired up the engines for the first time this season and noticed a strange clicking sound coming from the helm dash. Sounds like a relay perfectly timed every few seconds click-on and click-off. Each engine does this and with both clicking on and off its kind of annoying but has really caught my curiosity and I have never heard this in the past. This only happens when the engines are running only.

I opened the panels as it sounded like it is coming from the RPM gauges. Grabbed each of them but didn't feel like it was them.

While the boat was laid up I installed a smartcraft system, new MFD, and Mercury Vesselview Mobile. The clicking is not coming from any of those components. No engine alarms.

Anyone heard of this before?

Could it be the hour meter in the tach? Mine click, always have in the two years I've owned it.

Geez, that makes sense. I will have to watch it increasing and compare to the clicks. I thought hour meters were slow and constant and not mechanical. I say this because I have never heard the noise before sitting with engines idling.

Look forward to trying it. Thanks for the tip!

You are correct Andrew, that is exactly what it is. I have had boat for 3 years and never noticed this before. I thought my hearing is supposed to get worse not better:confused:

Thanks

Will
