Mooring cover blues

Here's my story...old titaneum colored mooring cover from factory, 2002 , has had it and I want a new one in black. Boat is a 370 SS and I also can't reach over the windshield very well to snap it. I got an estimate on a new one, locally made, that snaps to the top of the windshield. Also a instrument panel cover. $2436 is the estimate for both. Four vents and poles. Reinforced edges guaranteed no rip. Black snaps. Sounds pretty snappy. Is that expensive?
Part two...he says he needs it out of the water for 5 days to do it. Now my marina is very fair but has to charge me something. That's another $300. Is it routine to have to take the boat out to make a mooring cover? Is the price a rip-off? My friend got a mooring cover from another place for his Formula 310 SS and paid $850.

Seems a little high. The quote I got was $1250, but that included me putting on the snaps and just standard sunbrella material. Not sure why they would need it out of the water.

Technically it was out of the water. I keep my boat on a lift. Being that you have your old cover that could be used as a pattern it makes the job much easier. I did have a console cover made years ago for about 500. I would get another estimate. You are in Manasquan I would imagine there are a lot of canvas makers there.

Why not get a replacement factory cover from Ameritex and have it modified to end at the windshield? Install on your boat, mark with a grease pencil where you want the cover to end, and bring it to a shop to sew on new edges. Would probably be a significant reduction in price when compared to templating one from scratch.

So I decided to modify my old mooring cover and put my money instead ino new custom made black for and aft biminis. Starting on it today with boat in the water. I think the black will update the boat nicely! Ill post pics when done!

The mooring cockpit cover for the 370SS was quoted at $3200 + shipping, 5 week lead time, and I would have to install snaps or hire someone to do it. I forgot to ask if it's made wit Seamark or Sunbrella.

The existing cover that came with my boat is made with Seamark fabric (acrylic and PVC). It seems to be twice as heavy as any Sunbrella mooring cover I've ever owned. Just for comparison, I'm having someone local give me a quote on Sunbrella canvas, and another quote on repairing/patching the original 2005 Seamark cover. I'll try to remember to edit/update this post once I get some pricing in the next couple weeks.

I had a new cockpick cover made last summer and went with the Sunbrella material without the SeaMark. After a year I have noticed is the Sunbrella without the SeaMark holds much more heat under the canvas.

Not sure what to contribute that to. Has anyone else experienced this?

Upholstery is so expensive.. my boat has a new bimini that was near 4500. I will say quality work varies. Ask around your dock for people who have had work done and by who, compare the quality. Theres a place by me, they are about 30% more expensive and months out from wven starting new work.

Their work though is top notch
