New shifter cables

I hope it's all I need. Trying to dock today and getting into reverse was interesting. And my levers are really hard to move!

Part 2 to this is...how mechanical do you need to be to change these? I generally don't do my own maintenance.

The outdrive will need to come off. I have never actually done the work, but it looks fairly straight forward. You will need to build a stand to get the ~200lb chunk of aluminum off the transom.

I have read of people lubing the cables which may be an option if you have a little ingenuity, but a temporary fix to get you through the season. The easiest option I have seen is in post #8 in the thread below. This would be the path I would take if I were in the same situation mid-season - keeping my fingers crossed that it will get me through til haul-out.

As painful as it may be on the wallet, unless you are very familiar with turning a wrench this may be a job to sub out. If you are handy with a wrench there are lots of tutorials on removing/replacing the outdrive/cables. Personally, I am a HUGE DIY'er and would still pay for this as the liability for failure to appropriately seal the bellows does not equate to a good cost/benefit ratio for DIY IMHO. To each their own.

Update here. The cables needed an sdjustment only! So happy about this. I may look into new ones at the end of the season. I still don't think they slide as smooth as they should.

I helped change the shift cables on my 27PC in June. The guy I worked with had done these before so it was pretty straight forward, when/if you decide to do it I'd inspect everything with the outdrive off...bellows, gimble, transom seals etc. They sell a whole kit to replace all these for ~$200.

X2!!

Turns out I found a receipt from 2015 for new cables. I guess they just stretched a bit or went out of adjustment somehow.

Shekmark, where was the adjustment made? I have the same issue with the Port side, and attempted to adjust the shift cable at the Livorsi assembly (allen wrench adjustment). Thanks in advance.
