My wife and I just purchased our first formula. We are super excited to start updating and refreshing the boat. When we bought the boat it did not come with a trailer. I have been looking at new and used trailers and just don’t know which to get. I have found bunk trailers and roller trailers. Any thoughts on which one would work better for the boat. Are ramps on the lake are not very steep and easy to launch at. Thanks for any advice.

Welcome and congrats on your new Formula. I agree with AllDodge as a roller trailer does not support your boat properly. All ramps are different with some steeper than others. The best trailer is one custom made to fit your boat or have adjustable bunks that can be moved to support properly. Axles are also very important. They must support the trailer weight as well as the boat and gear weight loaded with water and fuel. Tires are also as important as the rating must meet the load. Be sure to check the date codes on the tires also and replace if more than 5 years. Good Luck and let us know what you end up with.

Thanks for the responses. I have a lead on a 3 axle trailer. Seems a little excessive but I guess another axle wouldn’t hurt. What do you guys think?

My experience is very poor with 3 axle trailers as the axles are light weight and can only support the weight if all tires are on the ground. An example is if you are backing down a steep ramp. The rear axle comes off the ground first, shifting all the weight of the boat onto the front axle. This overloading bends the axle and now your tires wear uneven. I've had 3 and 4 axle trailers and had this happen to both.
The best solution is to go with two axles that can handle the weight.

We have an '09 260SS, obviously lighter than your boat, but have always had good luck with a double axle trailer. I believe that unless you have a very heavy boat, stick with 2.
