Taking delivery of my first OB Formula in the next week or so. I have had Yamaha OBs on CC's but never a Merc. Anything I should be aware of? Typical DIYs things I should be prepared for? What should I keep in my tool kit that I didn't have for my diesels?
One thing I know for sure is an extra oil fill cap!! On my inaugural run on my CC I threw an engine alarm. Turned to see smoke coming out of the cowl. When I opened her up, I saw oil everywhere.....and then watched as the cap slipped down off the top of the engine and into the ocean. Not sure why but I expected it to float. It didn't...Maybe not the smartest thing but I topped her off and jammed a rag inside and limped her home. Then gave a good hardribbing to the dealer for it.
How about daily pre trip checks? Dealer told me to literally not worry about anything with OBs other than oil. And the engine monitors will tell you if that is a problem.
