Paint or wrap

My 2008 34PC has some decent scratches and marks on the hull. Wondering if I should look into getting it wrapped instead of painted. I have a wrapped car so I'm not afraid to go in that direction. Thoughts either way?

I actually looked into this last year and I couldn't find someone to do it....

I finally got one person that come out but they never followed up after a few phone calls so I guess they got scared.

I still think it's possible but trying to find someone where I'm from is nearly impossible

I know someone with a 38' Scarab that wrapped his whole boat and it looks pretty good. Up close you can tell it's been wrapped but it was about a third of the quotes he got for painting ($7K vs $20K). His main complain is it's not durable, doesn't take much to tear it.

I agree with Andrew, they look great when first applied, but any scratch or dock rash shows the color that is underneath. Would not be my choice.

Thanks for all that info. I'm aware a wrap needs to be removed after around 5 years max so the cost/benefit might be negligible due to the shorter lifespan.

This post is the reason I would not want a fully painted hull. The gelcoat formula uses is fantastic and so little scratches to a larger gouge are easily repairable.

Formulas painted hulls are able to be repaired and blended in . There is no fading since they are clear coated. I had some touch ups done on an earlier boat I had and I could not find the area repaired and painted and I knew where it was . Stay with paint imho.

this is not true across the country.... where I'm from it's impossible to get anyone to touch up the hull.

So I'm stuck ...

Even though I love the paint it does have its issues

So below are some photos. Thoughts? Paint? Repair? (I think I've decided to not go with wrap). Thanks for any tips. Jeff

So my hull looks almost just like yours.... I can't find anybody to fix it maybe where you're located you'll have more resources.... I know it can be done there is just no painters around me.

I have a 2008 PC and had one side of the boat painted $ 10,000
I told the insurance company when I came back from the beach I saw the scratch on the boat and it was not there before I went to the beach, they paid the $ 10,000 to paint the one side of the boat, it came out great.
I am in NY an I could not find anyone to paint it everyone said its poison an would not even give me a price. The insurance company could not recommend me anyone to do the work.
The guy that I found had a canvas spray booth with all the fans and filters, He wore a complete paint suit and mask pipe to fresh air.

Here is my boat before with blend, scratches filled and primed, painted, clear coat and final buff. Also, here is just the materials which are not cheap. Came out awesome but the materials alone were like $3500. The previous owner couldn't dock, had scratches all over the hull.

Now I don't feel so bad when I see what others paid for their hull repairs. It certainly is more than you think. Sorry I didn't take better before photos and can't locate my final after repair photos. I was able to get three quotes in my area and I chose the lowest as they had the best recommendations from others in the marina. They did a great job on all the small scratches and dings with the Imron paint. I had a line of deep scratches and gouges from prior owner on the port side that took the guys 4 trips to complete. Of course "I" can still see a small shadow when the sun shines the right way, but after seeing what they went through I would never consider tackling that job myself.

Goes to show it can be done by the right person

Wow sounds like I'm going to be looking for someone who can repair rather than a full paint job. Thanks the the replies

Good thing I have a buddy that owns a auto body shop and he painted it for free. I got an estimate to paint both sides for $9,000 which isn’t horrible considering the amount of work we did.

The paint is DuPont chroma premier , normal body shop paint using normal painting procedures. The clear coat is the Imron which a lot are making a big deal about. Yes you do need a controlled environment and personal protective breathing apparatus to apply the Imron

Guys,

I have a guy doing scratch/gouge repair (from the previous owner) on my new-to-me 37PC this spring. He has 30 years experience and has had a past relationship with Dupont Corporate. Using the paint codes from TAG he's going to do the mix himself to save me a ton of $$$ on materials. Here's a walkaround of my boat pre-repair: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRyF7MAMR_I

I will post a video walk-around after he performs the repairs.
