Potential purchase

Hello all. I currently have a 41 PC and possibly looking to upgrade to a 45 yacht. Found one fairly close to my location and seems reasonably priced. The question is, how many hours are too many? The listing states 1200 hours and claims ?Volvo IPS Pods rebuilt and upgraded in 2019 with stainless steel seals?. Is this an acceptable number? The boat otherwise seems clean in the pics. Thanks for the info!

What year is the 45, I assume it's an earlier model with those hours and bronze seals. Certainly the the rebuild and upgrade to stainless steel seals should give some comfort. However, and engine survey and oil analysis is the determining factor. I purchased a 2010 45 in November and my engine survey and oil analysis were all good. Good Luck

A quick search of the internet shows a lot of opinions that marine Diesel engines should be good to around 5000 hours (some estimates are much higher, a few a little lower) — obviously assuming proper maintenance. I think 1200 hours on a 13 year old boat is probably just right. It shows “enough” use but not a ridiculous amount. I average around 100 hours a year too.

I got a good engine survey done, including the oil analysis, by an authorized Volvo Penta shop, when I bought my Formula 45 and that, plus the maintenance records from the previous owner, gave me the confidence I needed.

Good luck!
