Pump Out Clog?

I attempted to have my holding tank (at about 1/4 full) pumped out yesterday and wasn't successful.

I disconnect the vent line at the tank thinking it could be the cause, no luck. I also switched the Y-valve from the pump-out port to the macerater side while pumping and heard a little bit of suction.

So either the y-valve is failing to properly switch to the pump out from the tank, or I have a clog in the drain line from the tank.

Thoughts on how to resolve this? I rather not tear open the deck hatch, that's a royal PITA.

Assume you've tried to "backwash" with a hose...meaning gently insert a hose from the pump out "outlet" and then reverse fill the tank ?

I tried that briefly, but water wasn't on at the dock yet (plumbing guy is behind). I ran a snake through the deck fitting and made it to the y-valve so I know that section is clear. Next step is to remove the y-vale plate (3 bolts) to inspect and then run a snake to the tank.

Based on what I've seen so far there shouldn't be any check valves in the line. Do you know if the fitting on the tank outlet is straight, or 90 degrees? I would hope straight, otherwise that's a poor design. I know the inlet is 90.

I answered my own question. tpenfield did a great job documenting his work on the 330 bulkhead replacement that I was able to locate a picture of his showing a straight fitting on the outlet.

I'd be a bit careful with the snake, you could perhaps due damage (but I am sure you are aware of that)....

Looks like I had a clog in the waste line from the tank. I ran a dock water line with an adapter hose (i think 1.25" OD from Home Depot). It took a lot of hose pressure but it finally cleared.

Just a word of caution when doing this...don't leave the water hose on very long, it will fill the tank very fast!

Glad you figured this out....and good info for other folks that have this issue!
