Question on Raymarine E-80

May be you guys can help me.

I purchased a 07 31 pc at the end of last year. It was a bank repo I found out side of houston TX. I shipped it up here in S Jersey with six weeks left in season. I repaced the navionics chip (gold) with a new platinum plus chip for my area. I sent the old chip back for it was for the gulf of mexico area. I don't think the e-80 is reading the new chip. I'll be honest I've not had the time to read all the Ray marine manuals. I was reading the previous thread about downloading software. Could this be the reason my unit may not be reading the new navionics card? I will admit i am not the most computer savy person. Any input or or direction will be helpful. The e-80 does give me now a generic non detailed map of where I am positioned and picks up where I am however I am not geting the charts and everything else..Thanks
 
What software version do you have? Mine had 3.18 before my recent s/w upgrade and afterwards (now 4.29) my chip works - it wouldn't read it before and I never took the time to perform the upgrade. I have no idea why I waited because it is soooo much better now.

My device wouldn't "boot" up at all with my card in until I upgraded to s/w so I used it for a while without a card at all.

So, yes the S/W upgrade impacts whether your device will read certain cards.

Not sure what version I have. Is there a way to see? I doubt if any upgrades where done,previous owner did not have the boat very long.
 
During startup before hitting OK... read the lower right corner of the startup statement in the center of the screen. This will show the version of s/w you are currently running.
 
Definitely check the previous posts on Raymarine electronics and Navionics maps. You will need to upgrade your Raymarine unit by bringing the new software to the unit on a compact flash memory card. Then remember to reset (twice) your Raymarine unit for the software upgrade to take effect. You will be amazed on the platinum plus graphics and make sure to try the aerial bird's eye views which make entering new rivers or harbors amazingly easier and with extreme confidence as you can see the whole underwater topography.

Is it a BRAND NEW Platinum chip? If so, then it may not work with this version, as it is quite an old version.

But the upgrade is free, so I would most definately do the upgrade first...most likely that is what Raymarine tech would suggest as well.
 
Just called RayMarine they are sending me the chip to update my E80 from version 3.22 to 4.29. for the platinum navionics software to work. Just as Utah described they charge my card $40.00 and when I return it they will credit me back that works for me.

Interesting that they will do that for free?? charge/credit same amount on credit card that is.

I purchased a CF card reader/writer and downloaded the s/w - it worked nice but I might have gone this route had I known it would end up being totally free.
 
I did the download last night no problems and sent the chip back this morning. Know I need to learn how to use this E80 any suggestions are much appreciated.

Are you going to the Charles River for the 4th ? Or to the Tall Ships on 7th and 8th ?

I will be around on the 4th so we'll touch base before then. Are you going thru the locks up the Charles to view the fireworks? Tall Ships I'll be up there as well so hopefully we will connect.
