Shower Sump Float Switches... 2000 34PC

I'm beginning to think there is just no solution to the problem of these shower sump float switch failures... After replacing the switch about eight times I even tried a new Attwood box with a pump that has the float switch built in.. They say it is EXTREMLY reliable.. I have changed the unit in the new box three times... I don't live on the boat so it is not used that much.. Just weekends.I guess these things are just not made well.. Jimfastboat

I have a 1999 34 PC. I had to replace the unit unit because of the way Formula installed it. They cut a hole midway on the side of the sump box for the inlet hose from the shower. When the water reached that level, about half way up, the water would back up into the shower drain. I don't know what they were thinking in Indiana! I had to replace the whole unit. I replumbed the setup utilizing a Y fitting. No problems since.
Is yours piped to the side also? Also, certain float switches are designed to be installed two different ways to compensate for the slope of the installation site. What exactly is yours not doing?

Formula Man, I know what you mean about the way Formula installed the box.. It was those blue Attwood float switches that kept failing..I think I replaced it at least eight times between 2000 and 2005.. Over time the switch would need to go higher and higher before it would turn the pump on.. Eventually the switch would run out of range of motion and no longer trip the pump.. Attwood kept sending me new ones but obviously that wasn't the point..I actually got to know the girl on the phone I spoke to her so many times.. After a while she stopped asking me to send her the old one.. Jim

I got to know the same girl at Atwood when I had my 98 34PC. My boat now has a rule switch 2 years and still working.I still carry a spare.

I also replaced the Attwood box with one made by Rule and have not had any problems since. My problem was similar in that the water came back from the exit hose as well as the shower drain hose. The one-way valve in the Attwood box is woefully inadequate. If your accessory battery is running down within a few hours when not on shore power this could well be the source of that problem too).
