skyscreen upgrade & cabin fridge=2 problems solved

Earlier posts discussed thoughts.

I put up Oceanair skyscreen SS 1080 over the Bomar hatches in the cabin. Encompassed the entire hatch & ring. Looks EXCELLENT and now will not have mosquitoes coming in when the hatch is up. A little white foam filled in the spaces of the curve of the roof. Keeps cooler in summer too..Plenty of light comes in from side ports. No carpentry...took longer to assemble than to put in place!

Also someone asked how to keep light out of cabin from companionway. I have a sunbrella cover that snaps on the outside..keeps light out and helps with cooling. Also have a sunbrella cover for the dash when not in use. Only seen a towel used by one owner of a nice Sea Ray. Way too tacky!!!

Re the refrigerator and needing more cooling..installed a 5 inch 12 v fan from RadioShack in the wall of the adjacent cabinet under the sink. Extra air did the trick, blowing behind the fridge so dishes are not "contaminated". Temps 39 degrees at half thermostat.

I was thinking of doing the same thing with the fan - blowing extra air behind the fridge. Awesome to hear that it worked for ya!

The first picture is with foam in place to completely block out the light, second one is just before it was put in place in the second hatch.

Plenty of light in the day when only half open and much cooler. It is 90/90 here today. Degrees / humidity.
Storm coming.

Thx Formula Tenn for posting.. I will eventually learn to post from my Ipad!!

no problem ;) i can't say enough about how much nicer these things are than the hard framed screen i had before. not sure what you had to begin with but i'm still betting you'll get a lot of use out of these.

I also have a 2005 37PC, sapphire blue with Volvo GXI's 420 hp .I would like to add the 2 sky screens (they were standard on my previous Sea Ray and I loved them).

Sounds like they fit over the frame as when I initially enquired with Ocean Air they advised they did not have a screen/shade to custom fit my bomar hatches. Looks like that is not entirely true. Did you screw the kit directly into the headliner?

How much did they cost, and did you order direct from Oceanair? They have a distributor up here in Toronto where I boat on Lake Ontario, and as I recall they quoted about $500 each.

Interesting how you dealt with the fridge. I had issues as well and ended up increasing the seal around the door , and added some memory foam to the latch which connects the wooden outer door to the fridge, and that caused a much tighter fit. It resolved the problem. Added more seal to my cockpit fridge as well, and it dramatically improved its performance.

Would you please explain how you "increased the seal around the door". I am having trouble invisioning this.

I had a roll of foam, (intended to seal hatches) which is about 1/2 inch wise, with one side that has an adhesive strip (you peel off the backing) and I cut it to size and fit it to the fridge . I did not remove anything, this was additive to existing seals.

Does this help you visualize?

Vaporetto
The 4 screws went directly into the headliner. 5 minutes. Original hatch untouched.

I got mine from ZARCOR. On line. Zarcor.com. Don't recall price but listed on their website. Two colors-white or beige.
