SKYSCREENS

Have any of you installed Skyscreens over cabin hatches? If so, where bought? Any problems with installation? Foam rim needed?

Ditto - yours probably came with them, too, but are missing the screens. If there's a little lip around the interior hatch trim, you're set up for them and just need replacement screens. Can't imagine you'd have different hatches than the rest of us.

Yes I do NOT have the retractable hatch and screen in the cabin. Only in the v-berth. If a 2004 had them, wonder why I did not ...will ask...have just never gotten around to looking into this. The ineffective little bound screen is what is there.
My concern is the depth of screw in the ceiling. TAG had no clue. Now, in production line, there is a board around the hatch for the screws. When I go to the boat this week will have to take down the rim & see what is there. Thought maybe someone had already done this.

I wonder if we're not talking about the same thing then. Mine aren't retractable. They're screens on a springy wire frame that pop in and out of a groove on the hatch trim/frame. All 3 deck hatches (v berth, galley, and dinette) have them, but they're not a retractable pull-across screen like you may be describing.

Two of my center cabin hatches have this set up you are describing. The front over the V birth has the retractable screen and shade. For the other two I slide an piece of blue cloth material in above the screen block out the early morning sunrise.

Do all of the newer 31 PC's still have these? I know Sea Ray had covers on theirs.

Fan is correct. Only forward berth has retractable. Other two do not. Also you will have to get some cloth or whatever you wanna use to block out sun. Shocking that Formula does not give u something.

Sea,

Talk to Formula and see if they can custom install the same as the forward berth hatch covers? Pay for the upgrade now instead of having to worry when the boat gets delivered

Sent the email off requesting it. They don't look too expensive, particularly if they are installing it at the factory.

I bet this is at least a $500 upgrade from the factory.

Seakip..they are Bomar hatches and available at the factory..they are installing on the new 37s I know.....maybe better done there no matter more expensive because of backing for them that I mentioned. I will know this weekend when I go to my boat to see just what it will take to put them in mine now. Installation is no big deal..I plan to do it myself but do not want to see the shiny little point of a screw on the top deck!!

I can e-mail to you what is done now at the factory if you send me your personal address..details on the production line, backing etc...put in before the headliner of course. For all the 25 years + with cruisers i have been covering the hatches inside with a nice bound piece of Sunbrella with Velcro to hold in place but more recently a shade from RV stores that just fits into place under the screen. Then during the day store behind the rv curtains..ha!Ha! or lol

we are looking at those for all of our deck hatches but it will more or less be a retro fit for us. i haven't heard of the Zarcor brand though, we'll check it out.

As an added note...I wanted to add these after the fact and was told by Bomar that I do not have the "depth" required for an aftermarket install. It would be a TON of work to do a retrofit.

Even though they might be expensive from the factory...if you want these I think factory mod is the only viable option (with Bomar)

what exactly did they mean by this i wonder?? depth as in hull thickness?? that just doesn't make sense to me. besides, it'd be pretty easy to simply make a frame to mount them on if you couldn't get it to work any other way, that's how they are done in a dockmates seabag and the install looks great. i think they were factory installed that way.

For me it was DEPTH as in headliner depth to give it the "flush" look. If you go on their website you can see how this installs. For me I wanted to match the factory look and that is IMPOSSIBLE for a guy with average skills.

i can't quite visualize what your trying to describe but i certainly understand wanting it to look nice when done. do you happen to have any pics of what your hatches look like on the inside? here is what mine looks like (i know, it's dirty) so it would probably look fine to do an install over the existing trim i think. but i'm not sure so i'd be interested in hearing of anyone's results if they do this.
