my 2002 41 PC with Volvo tamd74 diesel engines. the starboard engine will over heat but seems to idle at norm temp?
once you get above idle speed it heats up quickly. impeller seems to be fine and coolant level is good? Any help would be great...

Backflush the heat exchangers first. If you are really mechanically inclined you can remove one of the endcaps and check for debris or mineral clogging of the tubes. Remember, if you remove an endcap you should replace the o-ring when putting it back,

Like the guys say, check the strainer. What you describe is classic signal that the impeller is done. The starboard impeller is a bear to change so it may not have been changed in quite some time, never mind annually as per the recommendation. What makes the impeller seem OK? The heat ex on the TAmD. Volvo is complicated and I don't recommend taking it apart without taking it off first. (See pic.)There are multiple o rings in play and it would be ez to screw it up, particularly on the right side where you can't see what you are doing...just my two cents.

what boathound said!

Start at the hole in the water for the intake, be sure all hoses are solid and not collapsed, sea strainer clear, move to the impeller, then exchanger...
