I am looking to add a tie bar to my 280SS w/twin bravo 3s. Looking to find some good info before I drop $500+ on one of these.

What brands does everyone use?

Anyone have the dimensions to the center of each drive? I was told to measure, but want to compare my measurements to the recommendation spec.

Also, some have recommended removing the inside tie bar when doing the drive bar, can any one else confirm this?

Thanks in advance!

Rob

Just installed one on my 330ss. I'm leaving the internal one on. I purchased a Hardin marine tie. Seems like it over built lol. Great quality. On my 330 I got 34 1/2

ended up with an IMCO tie bar, came out quite good. very easy to install!

Since April I have repainted drives, added new Mercruiser replica stickers, new magnesium anodes, stainelss Skeg Guards, the IMCO tie bar, and Simrek drive showers.

Eddie Marine tie bar on my 300SS, with the Simrek shower. And I kept the inner tiebar on.

Good call throwing the Simrek showers on also. Adding them completely eliminated the white chalky mineral deposits from over-heated drives shock cooling when they dunk back into the water when slowing.

34.5 sounds like my spacing also. I just measureed the distance from center to center of the ring on the transom. The bars typically have a bit of adjustment in them for adding toe-in or toe-out. With the dual prop drives you want them neutral.

Here's a close-up of what it looks like on the drive and an overall pic.

This is great, I have been using those photos as a reference! ...the power of google. Do your showers sit up against the Mercury logos? Mine sit dead against, which seems a touch strange.

The spacing on the 280SS is 33 1/2, according to formula, and my measurements on center (benefits of a nice yard stick). Awesome setup you have, I wish I had captains call!

They are very close to the decals on the side. If you want a bit more clearance on yours, try putting another washer on the horizontal bolt before putting the shower mounts on the bolt.

Yes, Captain's Call is nice, but the open pipes sure make a mess out of the transom! I cringe when I open the pipes just thinking about the work I'm making for myself. On my Baja, opening the pipes got me a few more MPH. I don't see much improvement with the 330SS. But damn it sounds nice!
