tie bar

I have 2000 330 SS merc 7.4 mpi B3 drives. I want to install external tie bar, found 1 on craigs list but not sure what size I need and I can't get to the boat to measure. Anyone know what size length I need?

You currently have an internal tie bar and it is sufficient to use the boat. Adding an additional external tie bar is of no use unless your also going to add external hydraulic steering. To attach the external tie bar you will also either need new top caps or recaps so the bar can be fastened.

Are you having issues now with the steering?

It’s not a bad idea to have an external tie it helps keep the gimbal parts from wearing and just a little added safety, my 400SS has an external tie bar from the factory.

I have seen a few other 330SS with external bar. just got boat not even had in water yet, not sure why it doesn't have external bar but I am told I should get one

No worries on the search jeffl, the search function on these forums are pretty poor sometimes!

The external tie bar tightened up the feel of my 300's handling, even though the individual outdrives did not have the typical Mercruiser slop in them yet.

But, the Simrek drive shower was the best addition. It kept the drives cool enough that even after a several hour run I did not gett he chalky residue on the drives when I settled down off plane. And, once I added them, the drive fluid came out a lot nicer looking every year.
