I was looking for them but must have missed them somehow, what does it cost? Does it hook directly to the cable run in the boat?

$2969 at consumer marine electronics. Boat show special. othe booths had it for $3200 up to $3900. Best I saw on Ebay was like $3200.

It comes with the dome, harness and a 12Volt sat receiver box. the whole system runs on 12Volts. You have to run the cable from dome to the sat box, then run into your boat cable or into the other inputs on the back of the LCD's. It has an RF remote so you can hide the box behind an LCD. I am going to wire it into the cable switch on the boat to the Antennae side. this way if I do have cable I can use that instead of the box Reason being that when you use the box, you can only split the cable after the box and both LCDs will get the same station. So when on the hook, SAT TV and the kids watch DVD's when at the marina, Mom and Dad watch HBO and the kids get cable. Under way the kids get SAT TV and mom and dad get a peaceful ride top side ;D ;D ;D

That is going a very sweet setup, I am not sure I will go for it. I know you are much handier at these things than I.

Is there a monthly fee? What is it? I'm guessing it is like our directv and they have a boatload of packages and options. I may look into it if it keeps the kids out of our hair!

If you already have a subscription with direct tv, it is like adding another room in your house. they will charge you $5.99 per month to activate the card in the extra box. this will mirror your subscription that is in the house. thats it. $5.99 a month.

OH MY GOD ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I'm getting this for my wife and I! Now it makes sense how this would keep the kids out of your hair while on the boat. Ha! I'm thinking on those longer cruises when they just want to go play cards or get out of the wind, now they can watch some Tivo'd shows. Is it a DVR? I'm guessing it should be. Even if it ain't its my directv service at sea. SWEET! I hope they are at the Rockland county boat show this weekend. I'm going to find this thing. Great idea. Makes it easier for me to bring the kids to the boat as well. After all, its gotta have something in it for me. ;)

When you are underway, how do you power it? Do you use an inverter?

no dvr, the sat and box run on 12 volts DC. just need to get the lcd wired to 12 volts and your good to go. or if not that technical, just run the generator and you are good to go. I am sure the kids will need the air conditioning on anyway so you would need the Generator running.

Pulling 12v to it is no problem. I'm guessing since it doesn't have a dvr, that it isn't using too much power. And running it of the accessory battery would be fine. Running A/C underway is also a good option.

What's with the tracvision not letting you split the signal until after the box! Can you buy a separate receiver (like directv) and hook it into the same dome? I mean at $6 more for the additional reciever.... that would be a no brainer.

Have you seen those wireless LCDs that they put on the new Formulas. They mount it on the arch for TV in the cockpit? I'm not sure I'd put it in the cockpit, but... If its wireless you could put it anywhere. I haven't seen them online too much. Seems like that would be very easy to install. I'm guessing its gotta be 2.4ghz to be watchable and need 12v or have a rechargeable lithium ion battery pack.

where did you read that you cant split the signal after the box. i can understand not being able to split after the antennae/before the box.

my plan is to take the M3 cable out of the box into the antenae side of the A/B Ant/cable switch. of course both tv's would display the channel on the box. Then maybe 1 step further and add another switch so 1 tv would have SAT and 1 could have Ant signal.

Sure, that's right. Of course, both tv's would have the same channel. I was wrong about that. It makes sense.

We'd never get anything off an antenna around here, but that said, maybe getting another receiver would be a great option. Do they offer it? How reliable is it? Plus, its digital.

I am told you cant split before the box with out some kind of special splitter.

Also, that second switch could also switch between the dock cable and the box if your ant dont work.

All installed, went for first test ride and it works great!!! very easy to install. In fact you only need to run the tv cable to the dome and thats it. No power needs to be run to the dome, its all in the cable. Sweeeet

I have this as well and haven't used it yet. I am having a hinge installed as we speak. This way, I can hinge it 90 degrees so it isn't as tall when towing.

It is safe to tilt it at 90 but no more.

Now, I need to get a satellite subscription.

Save the bolt that locks the dish for shipping when you install the unit. this way you can put the bolt back in just before you tilt it.

I would think this would be fine since I am sure UPS kicked it around a little during shipping ;D

I dont have that bolt. It was on the boat when i bought it. Any idea what size it is?

I guess I could call KVH.

When getting the service all set up, do you have to call KVH and DirectTv or just 1 or the other of the 2?

Thanks

I finally got everything squared away on this and added my receiver on my neighbor's account since I dont have Direct TV. It works awesome and he has the NFL ticket. :D
