tranny poping out of gear

I purchased a 2001 41pc at the end of the season last year. only 246 hours on volvo TAMD 480HP EDC's. The boat was part of trenton marines lost floor plan. Apparently the Boat had not been used since 2007. after dealing with some bad fuel and other minor issues She was running great. I am totally Amazed with the ride of this boat, plowing through 5 footers while my buddy is making drinks at the wet Bar, as if we were dock side. The fit, the finish, the power, just a beautiful boat. Anyway,a week or so, before i laid her up for the winter, the starboard trans started poping out of gear.It only seems to do it at idle speed, usually while docking. I have to kill the motor reset the edc and then she runs fine. that prop was a litle dinged up when i purchased her. i've had the props done at atlantis over the winter. its that time of year again and im thinking boat. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this kind of problem?

do your volvo's turn Hurth v-drives? if not, what kind of drives do you have? my hurths are sensitive to adjustment. give this a try: the next time this happens, don't touch the shifter until you remove the shift cable from the trans. after the cable is removed, see if the shift lever will move any more in that direction. if it will, it may just be a minor cable adjustment.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try, when i get Her in the water. This is my first inboard boat, so im pretty green. Just stepped out of a 28' rinker single IO, into a 41pc. World of differance. MUCH better world ;D

same for us. got out of a 28' express with twin outdrives and into a 95 34pc. we like our new world too. let us know what ya find. i ain't familiar with the volvo diesel/v-drive set up but i'm sure there are a few here who have some experience with them.

Edice,

Your trans. is electric shift. When the EDC sees a fault it goes to neutral and 1000 RPM. You need to look at the blink code on the EDC lights, that will tell you what
the problem is. Probably nothing to do with the tranny at all. Just to add EDC is volvo's
electronic diesel control.

Thanks for the info Boathound. I realized the trannys were electric shift when i went down to the boat, looking for shift cables and found only wires. I did notice that the EDC light did blink when this happened, but i didn't take note of how many times it blinked ect. She'll be going in the water next week, so i'll get the info then. But even when i get the code, how will i know what it means? Where can i find the error codes?
