I am trying to buy a 2005 40PC with the 8.1's and Hurth transmissions?..During the sea trial I noticed that when the boat is in gear and at idle there is a lot of clattering noise coming from the tranny's, more so on the port than the starboard. When we put a little load on it the noise goes away. Is that normal for those transmissions? If so, how do you make the distinction between what is normal chatter and a problem? This is my first experience with V drives (last boat was a 37PC with outdrives) so I am trying to learn as much as I can before writing the check.
