Upgrade 2008 E120's to Axioms

I have a 2008 45 Formula, Bought New Axioms at the boat show, these are digital, now I have to upgrade my Transducer and Radar. Thought it would be simple plug and play.. or an adapter.. not the case. Does anyone know where I can get the wiring schematics for the Electronics? has anyone done upgraded to axiom? I received a quote today for install and it seemed high, $2,800.00, I have already installed the Transducer just have to run the line,

Yeah so I believe you are going to have to replace your complete RADAR unit as well....as Raymarine really provides no upgrade path. As for your quote...what was that for, just the two units to connect to the Transducer...what about the new radar. I may not be accurate, but I think I am.

Others will chime in....

For what it's worth, I paid $1,400 to run a power line from the fuse box to my Raymarine radome (down a wire channel that Formula thoughtfully designed), and then install the radome on a mount on my arch (8 bolts and some caulk).

No dash removal at all since the Raymarine display connects to the radome via wifi.

I have to say that $2,800 to run cables from the transducer and radar, as well as mount two new displays (they'll probably have to adjust the openings somewhat?), doesn't exactly sound terrible relative to what I paid for a simple radar installation.

i have an '08 45Y and replaced my Raymarine setup with a Garmin setup. for my project i replaced the MFDs, radar, the 2 EVC displays, and the depth readout. i also converted my engine data to N2K so that i could integrate everything. so, i did a bit more than you are here...and i had no autopilot integration since the newer setups won't work with the old autopilot. will be interesting to see how well your old autopilot integrates to your new MFDs as toofast pointed out, the upgrade paths aren't very good.

i also had to have a custom panel made out of starboard since the new MFDs are smaller than the old E120's, but i don't think that was a huge component of the job.

not counting the actual components (MFDs, radar, etc.) i paid for 36 man hours which was almost $4900 including all of the incidentals. so, i don't think $2800 is too bad.

the hard part in my boat, and i assume yours, is that unlike FastMarkA's boat, there were no channels to run the wires easily. you'll have to fish everything through which can be very time consuming, and the openings are quite tight. once all of that is done, the integration and calibration can take a bit as well. personally, i would have done the job myself if it hadn't been for the integration component. there's so much that can be tricky it pays to use someone that has an easy ear into product support.

hope this helps, and good luck with your project!

Yes it is a lot of work, I ended up paying 1250.00 but I also helped. Installed a flir camera and new Stereo, Radar, 2 MFD Axioms, took down the Satellite the largest one it was 4 feet long.

Hi Twarble,
I'm beginning a similar project on my '08 45Y - replacing as much Raymarine as possible with Garmin. The boundary condition is the autopilot - which requires upgrade to version C3 to interface with the Garmin systems. I'm not ready to do that, just yet. But I plan to replace the two E120 mfds, the radar and the obsolete Interphase sonar with Garmin forward-looking and downward/aft-looking units. Can you provide any suggestions about the route for fishing the sonar cables? I have traced the current Interphase cable path from the transducer forward to under the salon/settee, thence to starboard and through a hole. But from there it is, as you say, "tight." Is that the same route you followed? Where does the path exit? What options did you have to access that path? Or did you find another path? Any information would be much appreciated.
Steve
