Vessel View Failure Results in MINOR DAMAGE

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

You would have thought Merc would let everyone know that a low voltage alarm really means no control of boat ???

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

I'm having new pulleys installed Wednesday which are part of an Axius upgrade that increases the alternator voltage. This was supposed to be done three weeks ago, but the parts came in last Monday and the earliest they could get to me was tomorrow.

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

Factory Merc Tech is on his way to boat. Keeping fingers crossed that he can fix it so I don't lose another weekend.

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

Ok guys boat is fixed??????????? I put the question marks because, all the faults that vessel view threw last Friday and that I took pictures of were not in the vessel view today. Everything was cleared. It seems that I caused everything that happened to me. I shall explain. When I first went to the boat last Friday, I tried to start the boat without the starter batteries on. Simple mistake as I was talking and forgot. This caused the vessel view to basically LOCK UP and at this point the vessel view was dead and would not boot up. Mistake #2. The vessel view would not boot up, so, being dumb, I ignored it and decided to go out anyway since boat was running fine. Since vessel view was not booted up, boat went into guardian mode and I had to return to dock. So we returned to dock and were finally able to get the vessel view to boot up by pulling the fuses to the clean power supply and putting in new ones. Once that was done, vessel view fired up. We tried to leave again and that is when I lost everything and hit the anchor. Basically, when the vessel view fired up, it threw codes because it could not verify where the steering was and the throttles did not work because I had a low voltage code. Clear as MUD? Bottom line is I screwed up the computer because I simply tried to start boat without the starter batteries on. I"ll bet you that does not happen again. Took boat out today and everything worked as it should.

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

When you tried to start with the batteries "off", did you get an alarm sounding when you turned the key to the first position ??

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

Hmmm, I'm not sure. I remember the vessel view starting to boot up and then went black. Today, I turned the keys and waited for that beep sound before I started engine. See, I'm learning already ;D

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

I've tried to start the engines with the start battery selectors off, but I got a solid alarm sound when I turned the key to the first detent. I don't know if the vessel view even turned on....

Ok, here is the difference. That day I just turned the key all the way. I didn't go to the first detent as I should and will from now on.

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

Hey Rdobroski, Did the merc tech tell you to ALWAYS start the starboard engine first as not to confuse the axius and vessel view system
found this out from our merc rep....................Capt.Steve 8) 8) 8)

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

Wow, this is so different from a non "digital" boat.
I can't even turn my engines over with the "battery solenoids" off...they are simply dead.
At least you are up and running again.

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

You guys have me scared now. I love my boat, but it is basic - no AC, no gen, no ice maker, no TV, and I have always thought that I would upgrade to all the goodies on the next boat. Now I'm not so sure. There are a lot fewer things on my boat to go wrong. And, like Toofast, my boat won't do anything at all if the battery switch is "off".

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

Don't be scared of the new technology...It's amazing!

BUT in typical Merc fashion, let's rush it from development, testing, and production and LET the CONSUMER work the bugs out for them. You can't tell me that the engineers didn't know about the amount of power required by Axius and DTS during their testing. Come on Merc !!!

Did it take almost 2 years to come out with the new pulleys ?

From what Formula told me, the Volvo Penta Joystick has another dedicated battery for the Joystick system.

I agree with FormulaFanMN. Don't be afraid of the new technology. It is amazing. My problem is/was that no one told me anything nor showed me anything. So, I had to learn the hard way and by reading. But if you buy a boat from someone like Capt Steve, or some other GOOD dealer, they will spend the day with you and you will not make those "mistakes" I made. Furthermore, the flashing of the computer and the pulley upgrade should have been done before I took delievery. Of course, I did not know about these and the dealer I bought the boat from did not worry about it on my behalf. This is why I want good dealers back for Formula and especially a good dealer in MD. I am one that thinks dealers need to be around so we can enjoy our boats vs banging into stuff because the boat was not fully prepped.

Re: Vessel View Failure Results in BAD DAMAGE

Amen to that. I bought my boat from a dealer that tanked before I took delivery and, even though Formula's factory service is great, it is no substitute for an on-the-ball dealer that works out the kinks on delivery.

I edited the title of my thread. GEL coat guy took a look and told me that my scar was nothing and he'd fix it this fall when I put the boat away. Damage is only gonna be a few hundred vs what I thought I was in for. He said I got lucky because I only took off the top coat of GEL and did not disturb any paint or anti skid. This is the same guy that shrink wraps my boat each fall so maybe he is taking an easy on me. Anyway, finally feeling better about everything. Hopefully this was an isolated experience and I can enjoy some fall boating without anymore drama.
