Wasting Time running Antifreeze - while storing indoor heated

While I ran Service and Parts dept for a local marina we ran every boat on antifreeze, reason is that you never miss a drain plug or worry that you never got every bit of water out of the fuel pump and power steering coolers. It was an issue of insurance that all boats had antifreeze and no worry of cracking a block and costing the dealer money. Every boat was tagged so we knew that it was 100% ready for winter weather it stayed in our yard or went home with customer. We had over the years customers with cracked power steering coolers and blocks that were kept in heated storage facilities, power went out and they froze. It happens a lot. We also live out side of Chicago, IL. Now on my own personal boat I drained and blew out all lines and hoses then added antifreeze.

F350,
I could not agree more.
Winterizing is so cheap, why wouldn't you spend the money for peace of mind.

Oh, I don't think anyone's suggesting don't winterize - its just the question of what method. For me, it's a matter of practicality. My boat's on a lift at our house, and we use it year round(albeit much less in the winter). I can't really put muffs on and run the pink stuff through the raw water side. That would be a pain, and I'd have to repeat it several times through the winter. draining the raw water side and freshwater system Is easy and works best for our situation.

My point is, get to know your boat, your storage, and you'll know what you need to do. But, don't do nothing and hope it turns out ok!
