What issues are in the Volvo D6 370HP and 350HP engines??????

I am on the fence between an 07 and an 09. The 07 is the 350HP and I don't like the ugly green color. I really like the white color of the 370HP engine. ;D Aside from my color objection are there any things to look for or issues known to either one of these engines?

Is the joystick drive version as strong and dependable as the stern drive version???

Volvo Sterndrive joystick wasn't around in those years on the diesels.

What boat are you looking for that would have these engines in ?

I believe the only difference(s) is the turbo design and some software changes for the additional 20 hp and torque increases.

Take a look at Volvo Penta USA and they have .pdf available for download for each engine and year produces that will show HP and TQ curves.

My personal favorite is the D6-330 (doesn't have the compressor) and one less item to worry about engaging / disengaging and increasing longevity in keeping the engine as simple and possible.

The 400SS has these engines.

If Volvo would get on board with the rest of the world in turbo technology there would be no need to accelerate the engine with the compressor.
The variable displacement turbos aka, VGT, can spin up just like a compressor. Most all other diesel applications benefit greatly from this but Volvo hangs a brick on the side of the engine like an old D671. By the way, is the "D" designation a Detroit engine? I don't know who's power they are using?
Back to the topic, I like superchargers and turbo's and it is cool to have both on one engine, for the best of both worlds, but a VGT would perform just the same.

I think I prefer the 370HP over the 350HP. MOre power is always a plus and in a diesel that is great.

When will Banks have their marine diesel in boats like this? I would love to have the same engine in my boat as in my truck! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Have you seen the newest Yanmar V8 diesel ? It's the 8LV and can be used with their newest sterndrive and is going to have joystick control.

Maybe someone with deep pockets will have Formula do a project with this engine. It blows away the D6-370 and 400 from Volvo.

The weight is actually less than a gasser Merc Volvo BB engine.

It's based on the Toyota diesel V8 in the landcruiser (overseas) like the inline 6 it replaced.

That is interesting. Yanmar vs Isuzu. I mean the Duramax is Isuzu and it sounds like Yanmar is building something like it.

Very interesting.

Yes I would like to see this type application in a 400SS. Lighter and stronger is perfect for marine.
