Why is this Board so "Dead"

I'm a member at Club Sea Ray and Offshore only and there is a lot of trafic on both of them...what's up with Formula owners here?

Well not sure this board is 100% dead, but the first issue is the number of "owners" in this forum compared to those forums is relaively tiny. Meaning Offshore may have 40,000 members, while we have 2,000.

So perhaps that explains most of your "findings".

Also, as spring approaches most of us are getting ready, and we tend to post a bit less.

However the bottom line is rarely does a question go un-answered and we are really able to help each other out with very specific questions.

I am sure others may join in and comment, but that is my $.02 for what it is worth.

My experiences with the forum is that most of the people here are owners. However, on a lot of other forums there are want to be owners, have been owners, friends of owners Bla Bla Bla. I don't mind a forum such as this that's a little smaller but responsive to questions. Just my .02.

We have over 2300 members, however they are not all active members. I bet 30% of them are active. The most ever online at the same time on this site was 70 back in January. so we are still very small compared to other forums. Its only been a little over 5 years since this free forum was started. Sea Ray, like said earlier manufactures more boats then Formula. Just try a yachtworld.com look up and see how many pages you get. So this forum may seem dead compared to the traffic others get but in my book its just relative. Apples to Oranges comparison. ;D

Sprink, I have no idea where you live, but there's a whole lot more traffic on the Long Island Expressway than Route 9 in Poughkeepsie, but the Walkway Over The Hudson is a lot prettier sight than a potato field. There is no way this site is "dead," it just operates on a higher plane than the others. Besides, guys here don't just point & click, we get together and do meaningful stuff; there is a certain pride in Formula ownership. I know many guys here feel as I do: that I don't own a boat, I own a FORMULA! I didn't see what kind of boat you (sprink) have, but if you own a Formula, welcome aboard. If you have just joined to see what is happening here, welcome but I offer no apologies for your level of disappointment.

I participate on some other small forums, including a couple of Donzi Classic forums.
I have been a Formula owner for a couple of years now starting with a 280 and moving to a 370.

I agree that the general level of knowledge and the willingness to help other owners is definitely
present here.

I also have noticed a few folks that want to focus on the latest dealer closing, the effect of the
economy on the market values, and the lack of aggressive finacing offers from Formula in a tough
market. I find all of this kind of stuff to be quite the bummer.

I would rather focus on the joys of owning one of these things and tend to stay away from the
negativity. For example, has anyone ever contemplated taking one of these things on the Loop?
I find myself day dreaming about this trip lately, and talking about it with my cruiser-owning friends.

Well said "Road...se"
Very responsive group, sharing our trials and tribulations with the same common denominator.
Not sure if Sprink was being critical or just making an observation on the site traffic. He may feel a little "Ruffed-Up" by the defensive responses. Don't bail Spink, it's a good group.
To be honest I personally don't mind a little "bla bla bla"
I plead "Guilty" to posting a few Tongue in Cheek comments myself. ;)

I have been told that a Formula has done the Great Loop I hope to be the next one to do it. Just have to figure a way to take a year off to do it.

Hey most of us have posted in other forums...however if we REALLY need help or answers...this forum is hands down the best.

as mentioned before...90% plus are owners and know our boats inside and out, and those who don't learn from the group.

Great forum, end of story...no matter what the traffic.

And as mentioned earlier, we are not attacking the original author, just being passionate about our world.

All well said. The only forum I check on a regular bassis, along with Diesel*****com, and can depend on. Respectfull and no B.S......

Well, if his intention was to keep us talking, he did that.

OK Kid's !!!!
So since we're all so helpfull :-*
WHY?? hasn't anyone responded to my "Seat removal post ;D"
All I want to know is if anyone has had occasion to remove perfectly good engine hatch insulation.
WELL then, I suppose this time next week I will be the resident expert on insulation and seat removal.
I will be available immediately theirafter to provide the tutorial on the removal and re-instalation on the ripped rear seat project :-*

Hey guys, I know it might seem like his question about the forum being dead might seem negative, and maybe it is, but he does have a good point. There are other brand-specific forums that have much more "chatter" than this one. Sure the Sea Ray forum will always be busy because they make everything from a small tender to a large yacht, not to mention the cookie-cutter production standards over there. I am a regular on a couple different forums, including the Cruisers Yachts Owners Club forum, which is always very busy with questions and some factory involvement on the site. I consider Cruisers to be in line with Formula with regard to quality and their production numbers are probably similar. Many of the users on this site often refer to other sites they use such as Offshore Only, and perhaps because many of the Formula models are geared toward performance-minded boaters those people tend to use those forums more often.

Personally I would love to see more topics and conversation on this forum. I like the fact that it's a smaller forum but I look forward to visiting and reading something new and interesting, that doesn't always happen. So let's kick up the conversation level a little bit and help each other out and grow the community. ;D

MODELMAKER,
MAYBE NO ONE HAS THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION ABOUT SEAT REMOVAL. I'M SURE IF THEY DID, THEY WOULD NOT HESITATE TO HELP OUT.
