Winterizing 6.2 Horizons with Sea Strainers

Is it possible to winterize motors without using "earmuffs" and pulling AF up through the Bravo 3's? Bravo 3's seem difficult to get there AF through them.

Can a "T" be installed between the sea strainers and the motor to flush them both out with AF? Can you also use this "T" to flush out motors with fresh water ?

There has to be better way to winterize than using old fashioned "ear muffs"

Most B3 installs do not have strainers though...so not totally sure what you are asking. If you do, what unforgettable said is right on...if not, well then...not as easy.

Please clarify if you can.

What about the intake on the bottom of the Bravo 3's? Using the Seaflush and pouring AF thru the strainers with the thru-hull shut offs would seem to work BUT seems you would be pulling in air from the bottom of the Bravo 3's?

What about putting in a "T" with a back flow preventer in between the Bravo 3 pick up hose and the water pump - closing the thru hull shut offs on the sea strainers? This, in theory, should provide water or AF to the entire cooling system including the sea strainers?

Just found out the eater pumps are brass and cost $750 - you have to love your BOAT "Break Out Another Thousand"

When I owned a 280 SS and a 400SS both with Bravo 3s I used the 5 gallon jug from west marine with a y splitter and ear muffs. I had a hose to one side, a jug filled with anti freeze to the other side of splitter. I ran engine on fresh water then shut it down , switched splitter to jug and restarted engine. Never had any trouble pulling antifreeze thru. takes 2 people one to watch and the other to shut down engine

It is best to drain down the engine block and manifolds, even if you use anti-freeze, as 5-6 gallons does not fully purge all of the water from the cooling system.

I would also recommend draining down the sea water strainers, if you may see temps in the single digits or lower.

You can certainly introduce water or anti-freeze closer to the sea water pump, if your system is configured for that. No hard and fast rule about bringing it up through the ear muffs.
