YANMAR 440 MAINTENANCE ??

So while inspecting my Racors, I notice discoloration in the bottom of one of the bowls. Water - I am guessing. That tank had a missing O ring and water must have gotten in. Do I just crack the bolt on the bottom and drain out the water? Thanks

I would use caution if you loosen or remove the drain plug from the fuel tank. How much water was in the bottom of the Racor? I would suggest using a water dispersant such as "FPPF". If you have access to the top of the tank, you can get some "color-cut" paste and stick the tank to check for water. If you suspect that you have large quantity of water in the tank, consider transferring the fuel in the upper portion of the tank, and draining the suspect balance. Keep in mind that a bilge full of diesel will linger for a long time. Also disable your bilge pumps before you attempt, "just in case things go wrong"

On the speed, I'm measuring in MPH not Knots. I don't think the boat test report is very accurate, I don't think anyone is getting 1.48 mpg. I'm happy with the fuel consumption for a 40' boat but I think the best cruise is a lot closer to 1.2-1.3 mpg.

If you only have a little bit of water I would try to drain it from the bottom of the Racor. If you have a lot in the tank that's a different story.

"I don't think the boat test report is very accurate"

Boat Test Report would be the very best economy you could expect!
The F40 PC used for the Test is in new/ perfect condition & had no load. :)
Quite easy to load the boat with another 1500lbs (people, fuel, water, gear, beer, etc).

Thanks.... I replaced the o ring, before using most of the fuel. Half of the bowl looks discolored. I guess I will drain it and keep an eye on it. Are we saying 10 micron filters? Thanks

I would not run the boat without draining the racors !! If the racors fillup with water the engines will suck it in.Then your big problems will then begin.

Absolutely... Just need clarification on what size filters to put in but I am draining the water before at start the motors,

I use 30 Micron filters primary filters. You should always keep a spare set on the boat and a small tank of diesel so if you have to change them in an emergency you can.

I was wondering if both tanks on the 37 Pc are equal size and total 250 gallons. I burned 133 gallons of fuel and my gauges were almost 3/4. Also would you know how far off the tank the pickups are? I found water in the bowl because of a missing o ring. Now I am worried water is laying below the pickups. I appreciate any advice. Thanks
